Help with TII tranny
So I did some searching and didn't find anything and anything I found on the FAQ's was about GSL-SE which already has the 13B so it maybe diffrent, I'm not sure on that.
But my question is how is a second gen tranny going to sit in my 85 GSL? Will any modification have to be done? If so, what? And will a TII tranny mount on an NA engine? I'm sure this has been posted but I cannot find it anywhere...plus I'm dumb. |
Here is a picture of how I mounted my TII trans with my TII engine.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y83...g/transin3.jpg All I did there was remove the rubber mounts on the stock TII bracket, then bolt up the factory GSL-SE crossmember, and drill/dremel a hole through it that allowed the TII bolt to pass through it. Then I just spaced the mount out accordingly. |

But the engine will bolt up to the box, no problem. Do keep in mind you'll need a custom driveshaft when using a TII box in a first gen chassis. |
thread should be archived.....
i like dans mount alot.. dosnt look like it but is there a diffrence in the gsl-se than the gsl tranny bracket?? also i think dan cut away a bit where the shiffter pop's up cause the t2 tranny sits a bit futher back than the 12a tranny.. if you dont like this. there is a thread on how to modify the shiffter so it will sit in the stock position. im just gonna do what dan did and cut it a bit.. |
Right on thanks guys

The shifter mod is simple enough to do with a hacksaw, drill and a couple parts.
There are several ways to approach the rear mounting, either modifying the FB or FC rubber mounts to make it work.Again, its just massaging what you already have, nothing fancy to fabricate. The TII box is taller,so you must space it down about an inch. You can either work the inch into a shorter main tranny mount,or move the entire trans crossmember down with spacers on each bolt. Easiest way to get the flywheel and clutch working is with an aftermarket flywheel.Use a rear counterweight for a 76-85 13B and a flywheel/clutch/starter for the TII. I did this for a while with my old 13B 4-port,before going with an EFI TII engine. All I had to do was swap rear engine counterweights, everything else remained. If your strapped for cash,Racing Beat makes a clutch disc that will fit the 1st gen flywheel, and spline to the TII input shaft. But its an aggresive racing type clutch, and the taller gears of the TII box wont help any. And dont forget the custom driveline.......... |
pmd jon to archive..

Does anyone know with doing the shifter mod to move the shifter forward 3mm and changing over to the FB shifter housing...can you still use a FC short shifter? I have a FC Mazdatrix Short shifter in the tranny and would like to retain that.
thanx |
No reason why not, in my pictures there that's a TII short throw as well, not sure which one it is thogh. So in other words you can use a TII short throw shifter without modifying the shifter linkage.
