help with starting out with older 7

I have an 85 RX-7. I want to get it fixed up with using the least amount of money possible. I know that i need a new exhaust system from the manifold back. Could someone tell me what i should get? I don't know much about the 7's so i need some help

do a search for "exhaust". you;ll get more information than you'd ever need. try searching for your question before posting, and you'd probably get what you need to know much faster.

the short simple answer seems to be get a racing beat exhaust. you could get Pacesetters and monza if you don't mind wasting money.

Ok you used inexpensive, now that means no racing beat... What id do in your sistuation is start making friends with someone working at a exhaust shop :) Or do what I did make the whole exhaust all the way back...Then at the muffler you will have to have a muffler thats capable of hi temps...

Which I got an exhaust that I will be parting with soon :) off my 85... It'll be a month or so till I need to refab it with all 3" pipe ....But at that point I'll sell it :)

is there anyone else out there that knows of any cheaper exhaust systems? ones that are around 100 bucks, im a college kid on a tight ass budget... :(

you are not going to find anything worth getting for 100 dollars..

with the amount of heat that our engines put out, you need a good quality exhaust.

alright, thanks riffraff. i kind of figured i would have to spend more than that but i thought i might get lucky and find a cheap one.

Before dumping money into the exhaust, I'd take it to a rotary mechanic and have him check over the entire engine. I was planning on doing the same thing you are, but I neglected to check out other stuff on the engine and now I have to shell out 2k for a new engine. :( Believe me, the exhaust can wait, unless you are positive that the car is in really great shape. I just don't want to see you ending up in the same position as I am in now.

If you want a good system cheap, and have the time to wait....keep an eye on ebay and thepartstrader.com for used RB systems. They are built well enough to last well even used.

damn im glad ive signed up for this. i think the only problem i have with the engine is just that it needs some carburetor work, everything else seems to be fine. the thing is i need to get an exhaust on it before i go anywhere with it cause its fallen off at the manifold. right now im just checkin out my options. hanman, im plannin on checkin out ebay, a freind told me to do that, ive never heard of thepartstrader.com though, ill have to check that out. thanks a lot guys

Tell ya what, Indiana RX-7. You come over here and look at the exhaust I have on my 85, and if you want it. I'll sell it to you cheap.. It came from the same car and should bolt up. Never had an problems with it, I just wont need it with this new single turbo 13b :)

I remind you tho, I made this exhaust myself. And didnt have access to a pipe bender so its a put together job... But all the parts were made from thick steel and I DID the welding, which is a good thing :)

right...im upper indiana, by fort wayne, im not drivin that far, i was down that way a week ago and i hate kentucky drivers, no offense to you. that and i dont think my other vehicle will make it that far :(. thanks for the offer though. tell you what, when you take it off, take a pic of it and put it up here for me, then ill take a look at it. its going to be a few months before i get the money to get mine running
