help on removing sound/heat barrier

i am trying to get this crap off the floorboard of the car it is the black tar looking stuff that is glued like a motherfucker onto the chassis, i am taking it all off to inspect for rust sand down real good and repaint. is there any easy way to get this off?!?!?! i am using a screwdriver, chisel and a hammer, been going at it for the last 7 hours or so and have only done about a little under half the car, if not i guess im gonna have to have back surgery later cause im about to break. anyway thanks for the input

try freezing it with liquid oxygen or another 'safe' gas first then chisel away.

Better, easier idea. go buy some dry ice, cheap about $10 for 20lbs. spread it around on the deadner, drink a beer, smoke a cig. move the ice away, tap it with a hammer. clean up with a broom.

If you can't find dry ice, like me, here's something that works just as well, and can get that crap off of vertical surfaces.. Go to a Lowe's, NAPA, heck, even a Wal-Mart, look for one of those Bernz-O-Matic torches. Get one and a couple bottles of MAPP gas. Also pick up a putty knife. Heat the sound deadener and scrape it off. Oh yea, try not to breathe too much of the smoke that rolls out.. it's nasty..
