Help removing glue
I am removing all the rubber trim and striping off my 80 and was wondering the best way to remove the old glue residue?
Thanks |
Goof Off. Don't bother with Goo Gone; never had good results with it. Acetone or mineral spirits work too.
Clean up, polishing compound, wax, done. |
OK, will try thanks

Tried goo gone, paint thinner, acetone, goof off, mineral spirits... Gotta say the goof off seems best but it's still taking a butt load of time and effort. After about 2 hours I'm done with about half of 1 side. This really sucks. Even heated it but still a PITA!

WD 40 and a flat razor. Use a dull one. new blades seem to snag and could scratch paint.
|
OK, I just tried some gasoline and that seems to work like 10 times better than goof off!

I used Goof Off to remove my tint adhesive most recently and found that I had to always wipe with a clean paper towel otherwise the dissolved glue would just smear on the glass instead of coming off on the paper towel.
Sounds like you found something that's working better though. :) |
glue
I always use a heat gun turned up on high. And a plastic scraper or dull paint scraper. I wave it slowly over the glue area about 4 inches away from it. Watch out it dont take much. WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T USE IT WHERE YOU HAVE USED GASOLINE OR OTHER CLEANERS!!! They could potentially ignite and that's not good for you or the car good luck and let me know how it comes out.

Heat gun and plastic razor blades,
|
I use a rubber disc that mounts in my cordless drill, works great and does not damage the paint. Works like an eraser.
