Help removing air pump
Argh I hate this air pump (84 12a). Ok yes I searched, yes I looked at 3 different manuals. Last time I took off the air pump was 1989 so help me out.
I took off the bolts but that shim thing on top is the problem. The vehicle is very rusted and it won't budge. Any ideas? |
There is a hourseshoe shaped spacer that you need to tap out before the air pump will move for you. I like to use a falthead (slotted) screwdriver and a light hammer.
there is a bolt on the underside of it a 12mm i believe undo that there is a bracket attached to it that looks like the one one the alternator once you have that free undo the clamp one the hose and pull it off that all there is to it really. then you can run the double sleeve alternator pulley and the oh $!#t belt to save you just encase you snap a belt. you said you pulled the horseshoe shim out right and that long bolt?
Yes it seems to be stuck and I didn't remember how to get it out. I was calling that the "shim". Uh do you move it towards the rear to remove. I tried PB blasting it. I think it's rusted inside there. I'll hit it with some more blaster and try a bigger screwdriver.

I don't remember running into any issues. I remember removing the bracket that holds it, than the really long bolt, than I just grabbed it a wiggled it back and forth. Maybe tap it with a rubber mallet. Did you get all the bolts?
mine always has a hard time coming off due to the hose that is attached to it try pulling that off first
Yea everythings off but that shim spacer. It's rusted to the housing. I hit it with some more PB blaster gonna retry tomorrow.

Beat It Like It Stole From You

so next time before you put it on paint that shim with a non abrasive primer and paint so it wont rust
I don't think he's gonna re install his air pump. And If he was, i would just smear some grease on it.
Yea it's history soon as it's off. I got the block off plate from Mazdatrix for the ACV.
Is high temp red ok for the block off plate? (hehe sneak that quesiton in here). |
Yeah, I think any RTV silicone should work.
Hammer and big ass screwdriver did the trick. Ok now the Air control valve. The 2 side bolts where gravy but the top bolt. Deep 10mm socket or open 10mm wrench? It seems impossible to get to almost.
