HELP!>race beat/holley set up problems?

Ok, i put the new intake and carb on(race beat set up) with the Summit SUM-G3136-2 fuel pump(70gph at 5psi) and Holley regulator set a 6psi and it feels way slower than the stock set up? I don't have the header on yet(getting put on mon.) but is that normal until the headers on or should it be at least a little faster than stock with that set up and the factory exhaust manifold? It has a free flowing 2.5" exhaust and resinator after the crappy stock exhaust manifold. It doesn't seem like it revs up as fast and is just plain weak? Also was wondering about the dizzy looks like it has 2 dealio's for vacuum advance and I just ran the both into one vacuum with a "T",so is that correct?

It should be quicker even this the stock exhaust mani. Can you discribe how it feels, like does it bog and sputter?

You did the vacuum advance right.

It kinda sputters at low rpm's and it pulls threw the r's fine its just really weak? I hooked up both the vacuums on the dizzy with a "T" fitting wich runs into the intake vacuum fitting with the brake booster line.

It could be you are not getting enough fuel pressure. Do you have a pressure guage by the regulator?

If it hesitates at full throtle at the start then it is the Accel Pump (most likely the AP jet too small go up 3 sizes)

If it sputters at full at the start they AP jet is too big.

If it is slow all the way till the secondaries kick in then it could be the jet size. If this is the case then I would get a number of jet sizes around stock and try it. The stock should be 50s.

Do you have an A/F guage?

no af guage yet prolly getting one. Just drove the turd you can rev it up all day in the garage get it on the street and dump the clutch it wont pull past 5k and I tap the secondaries bowl and u can hear the float bouncing inside and I cant adjust them like the main one?. The secondaries are supose to add more fuel right? Maybe its just running on 2 barrels?

RX-7 Chris 02-12-09 04:53 PM

The secondary float can be adjusted but you can't adjust the secondary jests. You can change out the vecuum secondary spring but what is in there should be right. something could of gotten into the carb and cloged the secondary bowl. Try pulling the bolt to check the secondary fuel level, it should be at the bottom of the hole.

it was last night perfect but now its like empty. U are talkin about the bolt on top of the carb? I suck at carbs I should have just sprung for a god dam new one and I wouldn't these stupid phuckin problems!!!! I think I need to have some one who nows what there doing come over and screw with it.

There is a screw on the side of the bowl (fuel level sight plug) that if you pull it you can see the level. The bolt on the top is to adjust the level of the float.

Is your carb old?
you may need to rebuild it if it is.

the carb number if it is a 465 cfm is R1848-1

Edit: http://holley.com/0-1848-1.asp
