Hi!
While being busy with my EFI project on Sat,i found this mysterious box. It was bolted to the passenger side of the footwell, underneath the carpet.(I have a RHD Rx7) Do any of your guys have the same box?If you do,what does it do? Here is 2 pics of it. Thanks! Karis |
Amplifier if I remember right.
|
Amplifier?
Ok,so its for the factory radio ? Thanks for replying! |
NO, not amplifier. It is something else but its NOT an amp. the stock amps are located either under seat or under storage bins. I believe someone said it had something to do with the air conditioning but that could be wrong.

Ok!
The fuse was blown, but my aircon worked fine..? Anyone ellse? |
It's the ECU.

If you open it a big banner saying suprise pops out hehehehe!!!!!

So, by taking out the rats nest you can take out the box also??? And then in turn that huge cluster **** of wires that hook to it?
|
Cruise Control guys.
|
Shit, ya know what...I wasn't even paying half attention. Was thinking underneath the storage bin. But yeah, come to think of it...yes it could be an ECU, I've heard the 12a's do have them. heh
|
it is an ecu, if you dont believe him, open it up and look at whats inside.

Here is the ECU pin out diagram if anyone is interested. I have not looked at it closely, but I think you should be able to remove it if you don't have a rats nest. You will have to at least bypass the fuel pump relay (for cars where the fuel pump only runs when cranking or engine running, '84 and '85). This diagram is for the '84 and '85 cars BTW.

It's the "ECU" in this case an emisions control unit, not really sure on what mazda called it. And yes if you follow the mass of wires from the rats nest they go to that little box. That little box also controls your fuel pump. I would say it's not needed (I threw mine away last year) but my car is not close enoff (sp) to stock to say. But again the only important thing it controls is the fuel pump off a oil pressure signal (if I'm not mistaken.) And of course it's easy just to jump the wires in the conctor that go to the pump.
|
Ok!Then i can definately throw it out.I dont have a single emissions related thing on my car.One of these days it wont even have a carb on anymore:-)
Thanks for answerering my question guys. Karis |
