What do the plugs look like? Verify that you have spark on the leading plugs while you have them out.

My '83 had been sitting for 13 years. After doing a lot of fluid changing and maintenance, etc., I got it running. It ran fine for about 60-70 miles and then started symptoms as you described above. I changed fuel filters a couple of times and then the fuel pump. Fuel pressure coming out of the line at the carb was like an old man with prostate cancer peeing. Turned out that the fuel tank was full of varnish and rust. I got it boiled out at a radiator shop and it runs fine now (other than some flooding due to air vent solenoud problem).

I have a brand new gas tank under it and it still acts up. It will spudder like it is not getting gas and i dont know whats wrong with it. The floats have been adjusted to the right level and we cleaned the carborator and its still having problems.

God damn that's a tough one. So it's not the tank, it's not the filter, it's not the pump or the carburator. But it's a fuel problem. And it's a '79 so my favorite question about trailing ignition won't work here.

Can I buy a bowel?

there are 2 banjo bolts on the top of the carb where the incoming fuel is directed down into the float bowls, around these bolts is a very small metal screen, undo those bolts and i will bet you the screens are clogged, i have seen this on more than one occasion and it causes the exact syptoms you describe.

Yeah but he cleaned the carb so there could not be possibly any sediments in those screens.
