help me diagnose this
My performance has gone down recently. Today I topped out at 82 miles per hour. I though i was starving for gas, plus i wanted one anyway, so i put on my carter pump with holley regulator. I couldn't hear any noise from the pump by the way, but it works great. But i still top out at 82mph. I was killing rice burners left and right and now i can barely accelerate in third gear. So i guess either my secondaries are stuck, but i dont think i could hit 82mph with out secondaries could i? or my cat is clogged or melted into a restrictive brick of death. It drives and idles smoothly so i dont think it is the ignition system. What do you guys think?

i had a clogged cat, thats what mine did, if u dont have emmision test, cut it out......

is it ok to run a stock exhaust with the cat hollowed out? or just put a straight pipe there? how loud would that be?

straight pipe would be better, but louder

put a pipe in, the cats are funky shaped and impede smooth flow.
it's the poorman's solution, but if I was gonna run cat-less (I've got a high-flow converter on the car now) I'd put a pre-silencer or something in. But I'd check the cats, my -SE did the same thing when the cats turned into a large brick of dust and crap. --matt |
with just a straight pipe instead of a cat on stock exhaust, would you get pulled over for noise pollution?

The standard test for a clogged cat on a piston engine is to hook up a vacuum guage and slowly run the RPMs up to 3500, a clogged cat will have a rapid drop off of vacuum around the 2500 mark. I don't know how this would translate to a rotary engine, but I suspect there would be a similar response.
