help with fuel pump
 

Does any one know where i can get a full walk through of how to remove a fuel pump? i just scored a killer deal for a 85gs and i need to pull the fuel pump outa my gsl and put it in this one to see if thats the problem please help!

its really easy man. If I could do it when I was an UBBER n00b, then im sure you could do it. But mine is a GSL-SE, so it was out of tank. I am thinking that yours is in tank, would that be correct? Also, what the problem could be is clogged hoses. I know that was a problem with with mine when it had sat for awhile. So make sure you check those also.

well when i click the car over i dont hear the fuel pump click at all. the guy that owns it said he was driving and it just died but turns over like its not getting gas.its a 1985gs and i have a 85gsl so im thinking if i can get it running ill put my lsd and crap on it.

follow the line after your fuel filter, it will lead to the fuel pump. I believe theres a cover over the pump that you have to remove, and a clamp on each side holding the hoses on. Its fairly simple.

Here's a couple of shots from under my '85 GS. One with everything in place, looking toward the cover that protects the fuel pump. The other shows the pump itself after the cover was removed.

Changing the fuel pump is relitively easy. The pump I used was the carter 7psi one from summit that tons of others on this site use for similar setups... The carter pump mounted very well in the stock postion once the mounting bracket was bent at a small angle, worked well. One of the most important things is to either run a new power wire for the fuel pump and have a switch in the dash for it (this is what I did) so you can manually turn the pump on and off if the car is flooding and it doubles as antitheft. Another way to apparently get the pump to work is to bypass a electrical connection under the dash (I have no idea which one it is, thats why I just rewired it)

The reason for rewiring it is the stock system is made to only pump fuel while the car is turning over. You don't want this, you want to be able to prime the fuel system and build up enough pressure so that the car will start up.

Also remember you may need a fuel pressure regulator of some sort. What kind of fuel pump are you going to use?

fuel pump might be fine in the GS and just be a matter of the infamous fuel pump relay failing.
