HELP Both coils have a negative side, do they need to both be grounded to dist.?

Does the negative side of each coil need to be grounded to distributor? I have ran this car with no ground from the one coil and a ground to distributor on the other coil. I believe the Leading coil has the ground and the trailing does not.

Im about to go crazy brainstorming this rotary...

looking at the igniter, you will see 2 male terminals. THe one closer to the tab retainer (metal thingy) connects to the coil's negative terminal. The other goes to the positive. those are the only connections you will have.
