Headlights won't pop up
1984 RX7 FB
Front headlights stopped popping up, however I tested the connection for resistance and it was getting connection. This only recently happened, before it was working fine. The actual light turns on, dashboard light also comes on. Also my hazard switch doesn't work, but fuse for it is brand new and there is resistance from the connection there. Is it possible that both motors busted, or is there a relay seperate from the motor than from the lightsource? P.S. I'm not sure how to read the wiring diagram. edit: not sure if the Wiring Diagram is explaining this but, for headlight retractable the cord will be red/yellow so I should cut it open and check it for connectivity? Anyone know what setting on the multimeter I should use, and what would mean good and what would mean bad? (and general explanation if you will!) Thanks for reading into ths. |
Check the fusible links over near the battery. These regularly give troubles in gen 1s. There's a mod to use the later model plug-in fuses on Aus-rotary and probably on here too. The hazard light problem is most likely in the switch.

The popup headlights are most likely the fusible link or other wiring. It is unlikely that both motors would go out at the same time.
The hazards could be several things. In both of my cars I I get a buzzing sound when I turn them on. The flasher electronics is in the computer module under the dash (behind the fuse box) and is not a separate device that can be replaced. In the car I converted to an EV the flashers have started to work again. I don't know if this is because I have bumped the car voltage to 13.6 all the time or something else. It has never gotten to the top of my list of stuff that needs fixing. Check the switch but if you hear a buzz from under the dash when you try to turn them on it is probably in that module. |
how SHOULD the fusible links look like, just curious?

Go to Advance Auto on Alton RD, and pick up the fusible links from the 2nd gen.

Now to just figure out my hazards! https://www.dropbox.com/s/fmykbw369d...2013.16.02.jpg before switching to bussman fuses, does the back look alright? the top Blue / Red stripe wire is very loose and not actually connected. |
