Headlights are stuck up
 

so my headlights are stuck in the up position. i was driving last night and when i got home i turned my lights off and they did not go down as they are supposed to. i know most of you are thinking the motor in the lights, but i kind of dont think it would be the motors since im assuming if they were wearing out then they would act like window motors which means the lights would go up slower until they die. what do you guys think?

Did you try the manual switch you prob bumped it and left them popped up.

Check the "retract" and "head" fuseable link, if either of them goes out the headlights will not go up or down regardless of which one goes, one may have finally failed.

I had to clean the manual switch on mine with some contact cleaner to get mine to cycle up and down.

i tried the manual switch multiple times and it wouldnt work.

where is the "retract" and "head" fusible link??

near the battery.

also do you have rear lights?

Under the hood just infront of the drivers side strut tower and behind the coils. I suggest finding more fuseable links [which I believe are becoming a bit harder to find] if you do not have the money or want to upgrade to an FC Fuse block because if you do indeed have a short and try to simply replace the burnt out link with a wire you risk shorting the motors or causing more problems.

yes i do have rear lights that work. ohh i see. i'll go take a look at it to see where it is. is it a pain to change the fuseable link?!

Fuseable links are exactly like fuses only they are simply a little wire that is rated to fail at a certain amperage exactly like a fuse is ment to burn up and fail at a certain amperage to protect the circuit.

Attachment: when you find the links the two boxed in bright green are the two your going to want to replace. The links for the head and retract are 30 Amps.

I would believe if you could find another first gen at the junkyard then yes but I would explore your local parts store as well, I don't have a clue if anyone still carries them but it's worth a try.

thanks for all the help guys. but for some reason, after i got a new radio installed my headlights started to work again!

Loose/bad wire in the console harness would explain that.
