headlights....posessed(sp)?
 

When I flick them from high beam to low beam they cut out, as in there are no headlights at all, but then after a second or two the lows come on. It only does it every now and then and there is no such pattern...they just do it like sometimes every 5 times I go from high to low, sometimes it does it every 3 times....well you get what i'm trying to say. The headlights pop up fine. And whenever I turn on high beams they work like brand new, no delays or nothing but going from high to low beam it cuts out or fades for a few seconds. Now I've had my car for about 1.5 years and never replaced the headlights...but would both of them be doing this, or would burning out bulbs even cause this? Whenever i hit bumps it doesn't seem to effect it any either. I try going from high beam to low beam at different speeds (clicking it faster or slower) or with different amount of force used to click it (barely clicking the switch or jamming the switch) nothing seems to effect the randomness it has of going out...but like I stated early it does it really often as in sometimes it'll do it every time I try to go from high's to low's. What's up with these headlights, I've never seen anything like this? Thanks

Mine only goes on high beams if I hold it on...

And holy crap your lights are posessed...like the rambling of your post.

check your ground, i had a similar issue, there is one close to the radiator.

Actually... I agree, it sounds like a ground somewhere... now would be a great time to make your headlight switch control a couple relays and get some good wiring in there. This page has some info on rewiring your lighting.

I had that problem WAY back.
It was the actual connections in the steering column had worn down and didnt make contact properly. When I replaced my signal light/ cruise control/windshield wiper control just behind the steering wheel.. the problem went away.

I gots the same problem you gots. When i turn on my high beams, the lights go off...but i know the high beams work because my "flash to pass" work just fine. So if i hold the switch back while im driving down the road (PITA) they work just fine...but im sure its just a bad switch or bad wiring...im just lazy right now.

LOL. The only way my lights work at all is by jamming a screw in behind the lever to hold it in the "flash to pass" position. Man, I've really got to fix that! :)

if you're any good at repairing electrical switches, tear into the switch mechanism behind the steering wheel. the main issue is either a spring wears out, or there is corrosion. sometimes the grease gets onto the contacts and prevents conductivity as well.

Be careful if you tear into it, cause there are small pieces. do it on your kitchen table or something where you are less likely to lose pieces. (experience)

Okay, I followed the instructions at Stern's site this weekend. The creation of an entirely new wiring harness, soldered connections, new relays, and everything else. I used 10 gauge wiring for all of the power circuits and 18 guage from the switch to the relays.

The total job would have been done in just a few hours, but I had to go to the store four times before I got them to give me the correct relays that I wanted. Now that it's done all I can say is, BIG DIFFERENCE!

I would highly recommend this mod, even for those who are not experiencing issues with their current lighting. The website gives a lot of details concerning the amount of power that is lost before your headlights even begin getting any juice, and I can tell you he's right on the money. Low and high beams are much brighter than before.

Replace the bulbs, there is a coil for high and a coil for low beam lighting, if that fails, replace the relay. The simpler you think, the easier it is to fix.

Try that and test the ground's resistance, from the connector to the headlight on one end battery ground on the other.

It's a shared ground so that isnt the issue most likely.

I have the same problem, but is much worse. I either have low beams or high beams. If my low beams go out all I have is high beams and vice versa. What could be causing this.
