Headlights go up, but not down?

Now I feel like a goof, I was working on my car and I touched two wires and heard a little pop. Now, when I turn on my headlights they go up and turn on; but, when I turn them off the light goes off, and the lights to not go down.

This can’t be too complicated, how do I fix it?

Try replacing the fuse. :D It's the 10A fuse marked TAIL/ILLUM.

I have swaped out the fuses in the fuse block as well as the three fuseable links under the hood, with no success. Got another idea?

What else can it be? Maybe you still have a short and you've blown the new fuse.

Do US 1st gens have the little switch where you can pop the headlights even though they are not on?

I have that on mine and if I flick the switch and leave it on, they stay up even if I turn the lights themselves off. I have to turn the headlight raise switch off and then the lights go down.

Try turning the little dial on top of the light raising motor thingy, in the engine bay. Pull off the rubber cap and give it a turn (either way). Do the lights go down then?

Check the fuses again, in case there is still a short somewhere, and check the switch as AJC13B mentioned, that caught me out once.

Hope it helps. :)

the downward motion of the lights is controlled by the fuse... I know for a fact. I had the same problem with my car. Did the DSPO (Dip-Shit Previous Owner) wire in a second fuse somewhere? That's what my problem was; the second fuse was burned out.

Let's see:
AJC13B - I have seen the switch you are talking about on other cars and I do not have one.

S2-13BT - I have put them in the down position using the little knob, so I know they move. They used to work just right before I touched the two wires.

Jeff - I will go look for another fuse, who knows what may be there.

You know, I thought this would be something really easy, and someone would say it is this relay or that and it would all be done. I will keep looking, if you have other ideas please let me know. thanks
