Headlight stops half way

My drivers side headlight won't stay full up or full down. When I cycle either of the switches, the light will cycle but stops half open. I tried unplugging it and manually setting it full closed or full open, but as soon as I reconnect the power the light cycles and stops at the mid point again. I am wondering if it could have stripped a gear?
Any ideas?

Can you get new rods with plastic uh things in them from anywhere? Mazdatrix maybe? I haven't looked for any yet but will need some when the S model goes back together.

I'm sure you could trade it straight across to a dori-dori ricer idiot for a functional one. :)

All the external linkages and bushings are tight. Do you mean internal?
