Headlight conversion

OK,
I searched the forums and found/ read like 10-15 threads but all they mentioned was sleep eye conversions and things along that route.

I want to know if anyone has done a "how to" to change your headlights to something like these:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght+conversion

I think these are a little sportier and just look better then "sleepy eyes", not to bash or anything just my opinion.

SO if anyone has done a "how to" or has done can you give me a little info...

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Hmmmm I think those might look awesome on FB's, only problem is no one has made a kit or anything. Basically in order to do that, you would need to custom make them...

resjsu 04-26-06 06:00 PM

Yeah i know. I have seen some that obviously were custom made because i have never found a kit for them. I just dont know how i would seal up the lights after, notice int he pictures they have a plastic cover , i wouldn't know where to begin to make one of those.

Thats why i wanted to know if anyone has done it and can help me out. I dont think it should be too expensive right?

Tranquil 04-26-06 06:04 PM

Honestly, not my taste. They remind me of an old F-body way too much.

But going for a sleeklight kit would be cool. Like what a certain somebody has around here. (chances are he'll post just to show off his car, yes you know it)

http://www.cpracing.ca/

CP racing makes a kit --> Products > Mazda > 78-85 FLush Headlight Kit

http://www.cpracing.ca/cp1gflush.htm

...haven't heard the best things about their customer service though... :(

rxtory 04-26-06 06:10 PM

i want those lights done but in a sleepy eyes kit

resjsu 04-26-06 06:11 PM

Autocrash,
Exactly what I am talking about but it says 2nd Gen only. Still first kit i have seen.

Do you think it'd be extremely hard to modify this kit to fit my car?

Dan_s_young 04-26-06 06:23 PM

They make the kit for the FB RX-7 as well, they are just really expensive and I have heard the quality of them is VERY poor, as well as the customer service (which was already mentioned). Your best bet would be to find someone selling them used, or just fabing up your own kit because I have heard its not uncommon to wait 9+ months to get a product from CPracing...

resjsu 04-26-06 06:29 PM

crap.
what the hell does "bump" meen?

Thanks, i guess ill just wait to see if anyone else decides to fab them up, i have no clue where to start.

oldsk00l 04-26-06 07:25 PM

you "bump" a thread so it doesn't get buried.

southernrunner 04-26-06 11:16 PM

I will talk to my friend who does fiberglass, I will let him make a fiberglassed housing for the flushmount and see what different lights we can use to put in the housing. If anybody would be interested in this let me know. I will see if he can make a mold to make duplicates. With it being fiberglass you cna paint it to mach your car as well.

Dan_s_young 04-26-06 11:35 PM

I am REALLY interested, I need to do something for headlights. Just waiting for something that looks nice to come along....

$100T2 04-27-06 07:36 AM

I'm making my own. It seems easy enough.

Jbar3987 04-27-06 09:36 AM

Ssglopezvm did a conversion for his 7 with dual flip up lights.

He got his kit from http://www.miata.net/garage/bsplow/ it is a kit for early gen Miatas but it fits the 7.

southernrunner 04-27-06 12:41 PM

^^^That's what I plan on doing but I am still going to work on the flush mount kit. Does anybody know where you can buy the miata sleepy eye kit?

aussiesmg 04-27-06 04:37 PM

No longer available sorry,

I did mine, just bought 4 x 6 Hella H4s on eBay, used El Camino headlight bezels, had to cut the rad support to fit them, used thin aluminum strip to hold the top in place and makes them adjustable.

I didn't make buckets as its my race car. 1/16 lexan cut to fit then laid over stock covers and placed into 250 degree oven until melted enough.
Cost $40 total for better quality light and a significant weight saving.

southernrunner 04-27-06 05:15 PM

You mean they don"t make the sleepy eye kit or the dual light kit? I found where they have the dual lights but it is like $400.

resjsu 04-27-06 05:25 PM

I dunno, that look is cool, the miata dual lights and all but i dont want to have the cover there at all just 2 smaller round light or a single rectangular light.

These headlights are amazing, "Steve84gs" red 7 coolest looking car especially headlights:
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/does-7-belong-anyone-here-533641/
These are exactly what I want and i thought maybe someone did a how to on them. I am just not confident in doing a fiberglass project off the top of my head.

aussiesmg 04-27-06 05:43 PM

The Miata kit is no longer made, the last i heard CP racing had finally shut down.

resjsu 04-27-06 06:38 PM

Aussie you got pic's of your project you mentioned up top?

aussiesmg 04-27-06 06:43 PM

Can email, having trouble reducing the photo size, photos aren't very clear as the car is undergoing major mods.

I tried the sleepyeye Miata thing a long time ago too.The kit was $400 from Brainstorm........I ended up just butchering a $400 purchase for nothing.
The linkage, hinges and bucket widths are not even close to working directly on the 1st gen.Ive yet to see anyone do the conversion and have more than pictures of it up,like my pic.Id like to see video or timestamped photos of the Miata sleepy eye conversion lights up and down, actually working. In the end,it had bad light output, didnt look all that good to me,and cost bucks.

rxtory 04-28-06 12:07 AM

true i would never spend $400 on it but i do like that set up you had steve, im sure i can customly make something that will work for me

resjsu 04-28-06 12:43 AM
