Head lights flipped up and wont go down!

im not an einstein when it comes to anything electrical. that said, i cant figure out why my head lights wont go down. i did unplug some stuff when i took the dash out but i plugged everything back in. I dont particularly like the style head light anyways. Has anyone ever seen inner mounted head lights on a first gen?

wont go down. for erections lasting more than 4 hours, call a doctor aahahahaha. i thought it was funny.......

i think cp racing used to make flush mount headlights for the first gen rx7. idk if they are still in production though....

You put viagra in the pre mix?

Yea check the FAQ sounds like the mechanism is broken. It's been asked a few times use search too.

i do know that some ppl forget the switch on the center console..

AverageJoe 02-12-08 07:53 PM

I don't post much on this site but i had the same problem with my FB and it was solved by unplugging the switch on the center console (or dash if it's an '84-'84) and plugging it into a different plug. If the switch is disconnected or doesn't work, the headlights won't go down.
Also check the fusible links on the driver's side strut tower. The one labeled RETRACTOR is the one you want. If that's ok then I don't know what it is.

Hope that helps,

Joe

I would check the wiring for the retractor switch, it should be the one on the far right of the center console, close to the bottom by the shifter. Make sure you didn't leave it unplugged or plugged into something wrong.

Double check your fusebox to make sure you didn't blow the fuse for the lights and your fusible link.

When I had this problem it turned out to be in the part of the combo switch that controls the headlights. I ended up swapping that part with one from a spare combo switch, and that fixed it.

FBsliderseven 02-12-08 09:05 PM

yup either the switch in the center consle or the combo switch.

rearviewmirror 02-12-08 09:25 PM

If the console switch is gone or messed up the headlights will stay up.

There's a switch on the left of your steering wheel that flips the lights up or down. Check it first.

good call daemon, could be as simple as that for sure, had it happen on mine and couldnt figure it out for days (when i first got the car)

Check the third fuse up from the back on the left of side of the fuse box. That fuse is in the "down" headlight circuit.

780rx7 02-13-08 10:35 AM

Yup, it's the fuse. I posted this same thread last week. I was doing interior work on my car and had the console out as well which then made me trouble shoot the whole damn system including shorting the wires on the back of both switches which did make the headlight go down. Anyway, it turned out to be the fuse. Mine was a 10 amp fuse and I replaced it with a 15 amp fuse.

Got similar problem!

Hey guys,

I got a similar problem except one of headlamps retracts and works exactly the way it should but one stays up. It drained my battery over night, and so I think it is an electrical problem. I keep hearing a clicking noise near the rotor.

How should I approach this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your headlight motor is broken, and it's trying to retract but is physically stuck. It's probably draining the battery because the light is trying to retract.

Try and figure out why it's stuck, try pushing it down by hand or cranking it down with wheel on the motor. If you cannot get it to go down, try flipping the switch so your headlights are "up" all the time, that will at least stop the battery from draining until you can figure out what is wrong.

Thank you for quick reply. For now I disconnected the motor from battery.

whitetiger 08-07-20 09:45 PM

on my 81 RX-7 the headlights go up and down with the lever that emanates from the left side of the steering column. What switch are you talking about on the center console?

907RotaryFB 08-10-20 12:23 PM

Check your jumper wires. There's 3 of them in the block behind the left headlight. I had one burn out from accidentally shorting the battery and it stuck the headlights up.
