Hatch release replacement
 

I've been sitting on a rear hatch button for a while now and I finally have time to replace it.
How do I remove the panel in order to get at the current button?
There are two screws on the left and one underneath the panel as well as unscrewing the choke knob? is that it or is there more to it?

what year 7 do you have?? if its an 84 or 85, you will remove the screws that you already have removed and then you will remove the fuse panel screws from under the dash. there are two screws. there's one air duct in the center under the steering wheel along with it's cover that will need removed as well. the choke knob will need removed (one tiny screw) as will the threaded ring that keeps it in place on the panel.

It's a '79.

The remote hatch opening button just snaps in the pannel. Look at your replacement button and you should see how it snaps in. Trace the wire behind the dash to its harness connector and un plug it. (I assume you already have unplugged the old switch and plugged in the replacement to verify it fixes the problem) The button and its housing comes out from the front. If you want to remove the lower pannel, I think there is another screw by the steering column which is hidden by the column covers. 3 screws seperate those two halves, gaining access to the hidden pannel screw. At least that's how I remember it. I'm not currently at home to verify.

BTW, it a fairly common thing to break the snap / catch on these when they get removed. Hopefully, your replacement button is intact. It's all just plastic and with the catch broke, the switch will not ancor into the pannel securely.
