hatch differences

so, the rear hatch glass on my 79 is off of my old 80. are there any differences between the two? should i look into switching back to a 79 glass..
right now i cannot actually lock the hatch (good thing none of you know were i live), but i figured that was because i donot have the latch hooked up quite right. i tore out the origional one and put in the one from my 80 when i put the new glass on.

I have my 80 glass on my 79:) It all lines up the same, the only difference is the defroster hook ups are on the top of the 80, and the bottom of the 79. I solved that problem by changing the shocks, and taking a piece of wire to reach from the pillar to the top hatch:), or take that cord that looks like a slinky:) LATERZ, Andrew

i donot even have my defrosters hooked up. have not gotten around to that.. first i want to hook up the key to the hatch, and the button up front. the way it is set up right now is great if i lock my keys in my car.

were inside of the car does the defrosters hook up to?

ok, I am lost??? Why did you take out you hatch, lock, and button? Just curious:D The defroster hook up on my 79, are on the piller that the hatch sits on. I think it is by the shocks. I dont remember but I will go check in the daylight :) LATERZ, Andrew

i understand you being confused. alot of the stuff that i did during my body swap probably did not make sense. but i did it anyways.

the glass on my 80 was in better condition, so i switched that.. and i figured if i am switching the glass, i might as well swith the latch mechenism. the reason that the key and button are not hooked up is simply because i have not gotten around to doint it. the latch mechenism is different in the 79 and 80, so i need to move a couple wires around, and rebend the rod going to the key.. should be easy to do, i just need to get the time to sit down and do it..

plus my car sitting in california, with me in massachsuetts for the next two months, does not help much.

I hear ya:D I switched mine because I needed some tint so the back window doesnt glare:) I saw that the latch mechanism was different, but the glass wont stay on my 79, just until I get enough money to tint the 79 :) LATERZ< Andrew

but if the glass from your 80 fits, and latches, why bother switching it back?

Ok, so the 80 has tinted windows minus the hatch, and the 79 has no tint but a tinted hatch. So if he keeps the tinted hatch on the car, and then has the rest of the windows tinted, he will either have a mis-matched tint if he doesnt do the hatch, or he will not only have two cars with tinted windows, and one untinted hatch, but also a mismatched tint for the original car the hatch came off of. Is that about right? Makes sense why you would switch them around to me :).

ok, throwing a quick q in. i'm going to strip the shitty tint of the hatch glass. how do i go about this without screwing up the defroster strips?

I have no clue, I am just gonna get rid of it on my 79:) When I tint the 79, I will put the hatch back on the 80, and use the 79 :)LATERZ< Andrew

I've swapped hatch glass from an 82 gsl onto my 85 gs. No difference except for the mazda logo in the bottom right corner. :)
