has anyone done this?
i was driving the other day(not in an rx7 unfortunately) and i was thinking of the rx8, and some of the things they did to make it handle better... i thought about how they moved the motor down and back to change the yaw inertia moment of the car, which i think part of the reason they did it was because the longer wheelbase and added weight... well i started thinking... what if you modified the cross member and steering rack of an FB, in order to modify the mount for the motor and tranny, to go 60mm back and 40mm down? thats how much the rx8's renesis was moved... i've also been looking at my SE oil pan and the cross member and steering rack on my 84 GSL... also would have to shorten the driveshaft 60mm, which that would be the most costly part if you do all the other modification work yourself... has anyone else heard of anyone doing this? i think its doable with some creativity and a little skill...

i've heard of someone doing this to thier 2nd gen dont remeber if it was this site or another im signed onto but i never heard the end of it, it would b pretty interesting though, good luck if u do it though

i'd like to do it... my gf's dad is a welder, and can help tremendously... the driveline i think is the only thing i'd have to have a shop do

Put it this way.
The 1st-gen Subaru WRX is almost universally acclaimed as having the best handling of any production car, and its engine is mounted waaaay up between the front wheels and the bumper. Suspension tuning will get you far more than jacking weight around. |
I would think it would be easier and do about as much if you mounted the battery either in the hatch area or under a storage bin.
