Hard to start when hot
Have an 81 GSL, with the engine from an 83 GSL, rebuilt carburator from the 81 engine, and rats nest removed. It starts fine when it's cold, let it warm up and it idles fine (around 1000rpm, a little high, but that's ok). If i turn it off, and try to start it back up again, it is extremly hard to start, the hot start assist is no longer on it, but i press the gass just a little bit, some times if i get it to sound like its gonna start, then pump the gas really fast it will start, but usually not. Thanks.

Run a compression test.

Hot start issues on the newer EFI rotaries usually meant low compression for me :(
I'd check that out... |
Yeah, low compression. Is there any other way to fix that than a rebuild. I really don't want to spend that much for a 50 dollar car.
|
for a 50$ car you got I wouldnt be complaining :p
|
Yeah, 50 bucks for the 81, that engine lasted my whole senior year of highschool, then the apex seal dislodged and it seized. So I bought the 83 for the engine and other parts for 75 bucks, and it hasn't ran right yet. I can live with it, it wouldn't be my daily driver, just for fun. All the rebuild kits i found were close to $1000, and I've seen places where you can send in your engine for a rebuilt one as well for even more.

Before doing that make sure to run some seafoam through the carb and through the engine. I wouldnt go so far to say its the engine yet. Its not efi right? The only efi is the gslse correct. If so, then i would have to say the carb is done. Because in my case, its always been the carb when hot starts were a problem.

like wacky racer would say " junk it" :rlaugh:

mine was the fuel pump and the fuel filter

Start by checking the timing....
