Half blind & in need of Side view mirror help
 

In desperation I bought 2 cheap sideview mirrors from pep boys and mounted them as seen on some 7's about midway on the fender. I'm blind in my right eye and with the stock mirrors while racing I can be blown away by a Yugo because of my distrust of changing lanes with these stock mirrors (and being half blind doesnt help either). The new mirrors look damn good... but functionally they SUCK. The new mirror material seems to be similar to the stock mirrors (just a basic flat mirror).

Now I got a bit of body work to do after I pull em off. None the less I would be really happy if anyone knows whether there is a way to get the same type of mirror glass that is put on newer vehicles that say "Objects closer than they appear" for the stock 85 rx7's mirrors. Some auto parts stores sell adhesive replacements but I havent been able to find any that are of the newer "Objects closer than they appear" type that fit on the stock 7 mirror.

Even if someone knows of a different model car that has better side view mirrors that can mount on the 7 without major mods I would appreciate it. I'de even sacrifice my power mirrors just to feel safer.

Wide angle in-cabin rear view is another good choice. Most of the ones I have seen I can see quite well up to about the middle of the passenger door.

I'm blind in my left eye and I have problems trusting other drivers because I can't see them. In fact just a year ago I was hit (driver's side door) by a delivery van merging into my lane just cause I didn't see him. So yeah, life is hard. What sucks even more is the officer making the report said that both drivers were at fault and wrote on his report that my car caught fire/exploded and now it's on my carfax. I tried fighting with the desk cops at city hall but they gave me the run around.

So back on track now. I was actually thinking of mounting a small mirror on the dashboard (not permenetly) angled enough for me to see the left side. Maybe you could do something like that. Mount a small mirror on top of the gauge panel facing right so you can see the people right of you without having to turn your head completly around. Also, positioning your rear view mirror slightly to the right helps too.

my manager has only one eye and she has this on her kia jeep and says it works great..

I had an oldschool one when they first came out in my 79 corolla... and it was a series of seperate mirrors and it helped me out but took the whole upper portion of the windshield and made you look like a freak.

Nector I feel for you... I can definately say the fender mirrors did not help, however I have hopes for the one fcdrifter & dominicaneddy pointed out because I wasnt aware that they sold something similar to those still. also being a hatch back its got to be more effective than the one i put in on the corolla. I'll post back results.

OK here's an update for all visually challenged sports car owners with high insurance premiums and unwilling passengers. Instead of getting the one on flea bay for 20$ I went to pep boys. They had an assortment and I opted for the LANECHANGER I. Its a mirror that mounts on top of your stock mirror with 2 face tape. The thing I liked about this one is that it still allows you to still see out of your stock rearview mirror to confirm distance changes by using the new mirror. I drove to work this morning and it cut down my comute time (thats how effective the thing is). It comes close to eliminating the need of the sideview mirrors in our cars. Here's a link to the company that makes em. They have a small video demo. And best of all it's 7.99$ at pep boys. Who says you get what you pay for. This thing is awesome.

I love my wink mirror, you see everything. :)

So thats what they call those things. Thats what i had in my corolla (2 posts up). Wow those have been out for a while (since early 80's) I just didn't care for the way they looked and the space they took... but if it works for you its a good choice. The shape and size of the 1 I mentioned is perfect for me to see out of the entire rear hatch. side rear windows and 3/4 up the passenger & driver side windows and not the interior of the car.

That sounds like an upgrade to me!

Maybe you should post a vid up to to see the difference? That is if you can. If not then it's cool too. I plan on running to pepboys this weekend anyway so this is def. one of the items I'm gonna pick up!

The video doesnt show how effective it is on our cars. Even though it looks good in the video... it works even better on our 7's. After a few days now I'm really getting comfortable with it and feel much more confident even being half blind.
