HA HA HA I'm such a loser
85 gsl, 12a, racing beat complete exhaust, racing beat intake, edelbrock performer, no emissions. just did some "ghetto" 1/4 mile runs...section of road that we know is 1/4 mile and using the speedo (I know, inaccurate, but thats why I said ghetto)... and before you guys say it, YES I know how to drive, I'm not a pro, but I'm better than average... the BEST I could get out of my car was 80 mph in the 1/4 LOL
I'm going to go shoot myself now |
dude thats better than my gf's old nissan... i ran that thing at the drag strip and did an 18.7 at 72 mph... how terrible...
|
is that supposed to be bad with a stock engine?
|
Whats your motors compression? Its prolly down on power cause its worn out.
|
compression was 75/75/75 front and rear

thanks pele, I'm on it

Thats waaaaay faster than my GSL goes!!! 57k never rebuilt, stock, ?????? compresssion wtf ??? Rotaries have COMPRESSION??
;) |
thats FASTER than a stock one???????????
|
yeah, my car is incredibly slow. I rather like it though, makes me feel like my lightly modded lincoln continental is hells of fast.
I got the RX though for handling and just the idea of having a little 2 seater. |

so, low compression, carbs too rich, and the plug wires were switched
rebuild will take care of the compression, plug wires are obviously taken care of but the damn carb :[ black plugs, black sooty tail pipe, exhaust that will burn your eyes, I found jet recommendations for a 650 edelbrock on an rx7, but I'm using a 500 should I be changing jets, metering rods, metering rod springs, all of the above? |
My friend's Chevelle was doing the same thing. Turns out his ignition system was TOTALLY screwed up. My guess is most of that was caused by poor ignition setup. Have you done a tune up recently?
I posted a thread a while back about top speeds. At first, I was only getting 100mph no matter how long I laid into it. Then, I went back and rechecked my timing. It was WAY off, so now I'm getting like 115mph or so.... Makes a difference! Oh, and it helped on getting top speeds by staying in the powerband a little longer before shifting too. Never shift before 6k at least when trying to get the most out of it. And like Rx7Carl said, compression can have alot to do with that too. |

Yeah, what about run'n some that good 'ole ATF in there? .....or is that just a temporary fix?
|
I'm using 20-50 castrol gtx
as far as the hot test, I have to get the damn thing running again :[ I installed DFIDFIS last night, now I have no current to my fuel pump |

ATF belongs in Automatic trannies, can be a substitute for power steering, or maybe as a cleanant for crankcases, but that's it. |
got the fuel pump working, aslo got up to 82 in the 1/4 now, switching the leading and trailing plug wires back to where they were helped, hehe. already tried the mmo, pissed off my neighbors, and the water.
I need to drive a 7 that runs right so I can know what these things are really like but the only thing even REMOTELY close by is a 2nd generations convertible with an automatic trans, so I dont see any point driving that, hehe |

unfortunately I have to be realistic, there is NO way I can afford a rebuild |
Who cares about compression, as long as the thing starts ok, then just keep driving it. I bet if it had a 100 on compresion the car would only beat itself by no more than a car leangth. I have had several that have had low omcpression and run ok. If i were you i would concentrate on getting some good iginition and your carb sorted out. Get 3 3 msd blaster 2 coils, and get your carb jetting. Pour a good 20 oz. down the carb at idle as your rev it to 3k or so, do this fast, just dump it in, it will stay runnning if you keep you hand on the cable and pump it. then soak 24 hours in MMO, dump a good quart or so as you turn over by hand, or take the plug wires off, cump that down the carb. then fire it up next morning and clean it out. Do those things, and i bet you will have a whole new carb and will be wasy faster than leaving it all and just getting a new block.
