Guys, Im starting to hate my car, and my life...

I HATE MY CAR!!! ITS TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!

Ok, I dont have enough money for a new engine, so Ive been looking for a used one. The problem is, every engine I find is junk. I cant find a running beater car anywhere :(. My step mom suggested that I might be able to buy my Dads GSL off of him (he drives an -SE) cause he doesnt use it, but I dont think thats gonna happen. Plus the GSL seems to smoke quite a bit till its warm, and the smoke is white which kinda makes me think bad water seal maybe?? Anyway, the car still has power, but im not sure I want to buy a car that may die on me sometime soon. I tore the engine out of my car and took it apart, and there were two bad apex seals on the rear rotor (they were in 4 pieces each), and the front rotor (and housing) has nasty gouges in it from a chunk of metal or something in it, so shes not exactly rebuildable (not that I could afford a kit anyway). At the rate im going, I will never have a running car or a job again. No one is hiring me, therefor I have no money for my car :(. I only have like $450 for a new, running engine (wish me luck) until I sell my laptop, which might bring me another $300 if im lucky :(. Im sorry that Im complaining, but I just had to get it out, cause I cant talk to anyone around me, theyre so sick of hearing about it all they dont listen anymore. Anyway, thanks.

~T.J.

PS - I hate to say this, but I think I need a Honda or something, they run forever...Anyone know where I can get one cheap :(?

cpt_gloval 04-01-02 04:46 AM

DONNA 04-01-02 06:01 AM

I am out of work also, been 6 months now, but i did find a corolla for 600 bucks, did some vacuum line replacing, it now has over 205k miles and running great, i worked for a small telephone co. that laid off 600 people in oct. my checks run out this month, i guess i will go to Home Depot or Walmart, not my field but its a pay check, damm terrorist,,,keep ur 7, find a clunker to use, get a minimum wage job, its the american way of life.....good luck

riffraff 04-01-02 07:00 AM

i am with you too. i have been out of work for seven months now. so i too am unable to treat the seven the way she deserves....

RotorMotorDriver 04-01-02 07:20 AM

Its good to know I'm not the only one in this position :(...Im sure your cars are at least on the road though :(.

~T.J.

V8kilr 04-01-02 07:50 AM

chalk me up on the list,
been outta work for about 6 months
this is getting old quick,

you know what is worse then not being able to afford goodies for the 7?

already have them baught and not beign able to install them cause you have no $$$
so i have some pretty nice stuff, and alot of stuff that will just make the 7 look real nice,
but i cant do anything but look at the stuff and dream for now.

how bout this,
mine runs just fine,
but cant drive it,

got caught driving with no insurance cause i cant afford it right now,
hell i can barely afford to eat,
anyway,
that costs me $200.00
then got 3 tickets for expired tags and 3 parking 3-5 a.m.
theres $400.00
just got a letter in the mail license is suspended till i pay tickets,
then it will costs $50.00 to reinstate it.
plus $150.00 for insurance to get new tabs,

so i need $800.00 to be able to drive my 7

so dont bitch,at least you will end up with a better engine out of the deal,
what do i get????

MIKE-P-28 04-01-02 08:19 AM

You all not alone, I got a job and im working but barely. I got my check for last 2 weeks, I cleared $250 or so :( And I got a shitload of regular bills...

No shit, see I dont get paid by the hour really, I get paid by the job, I get a certain percentage of the ticket. Which works out great, but when you aren't doing installs the $6/hr they give you aint really shit..

We'll to top it off I got child support thats and instant $100/week off my check.

Hell last week I had 4 days I went to work and didnt do shit, didnt have anything to do. But seems work is picking up and I still do cash installs here at home :) So maybe I can pay my bills and get this car done...

As a side note Im thinking of joining the National Guard :) A buddy of mine's 2 houses down is a recruiter and he said sign up, go to boot camp, get a BIG sign on bonus, and get paid for one weekend a month playing basketball :) Of course dont mind doing what I have to do if need be tho :)

Good luck guys !

Blitz0309 04-01-02 11:19 AM

I'm hearin ya on the no job, and car problems. I haven't had a job in about 5 months, and my water pump, oil injector, carb, and god knows what else is going on my 7. Oh yeah, bald tires..... damn economy...

geikiganger 04-01-02 11:23 AM

I think owning an RX and being screwed cash-wise are synonymous. My RX is running (finally) but I can't afford tags or insurance...rent is going to be tricky enough come May. Making $6 an hour and owning a car just don't go hand in hand. Christ I can't wait until I'm out of school...soon...so very soon. Then I'll still be poor but my RX will be happy! :)

riffraff 04-01-02 11:24 AM

my car does atleast run.. even though my tires are shit (dryrotted like hell), my suspension is shot, and i have this huge ugly fucking dent in the rear driverside corner.

DONNA 04-01-02 01:38 PM

http://www.wankel.net/forum/viewtopi...c=19&forum=4&0 ,click on the profile button, has the sellers email, might sell the motor for less w/out tranny, good luck.......u never know.......

82transam 04-01-02 02:02 PM

I feel your pain dude, I just got a job at a gas station after about 7 months of trying every damn place within a hour drive from my house. I personally like hondas and think that they are cool as daily drivers. I'm sure you could find one cheap and reliable untill you get the $$$ to fix your rex. Don't feel sad it happens to all of us. Peace dude :)

V8kilr 04-01-02 02:14 PM

its happening to all of us right now from one damn reason.

NAFTA

if you all would like i could get into a very long discussion as why this is the problem and what we can do about it.

im currently writing a huge report for my girlfreind
"i know she should be doing it herself"
for school,

canadians and mexicans might get pissed though

riffraff 04-01-02 03:34 PM

i am with you on that one

MarkPerez 04-01-02 05:56 PM

No shit,,owning a 7, and being able to keep it running
to me so far is just a big money dumping pit, I mean
i love my car,but that mother fucker demands one
thing or another all the time..if it would last like a
honda,or toyota that would be killer,,makes me want
to unload the 7,,anyway i just bought this truck below
for $ 400.00 dollors, and i bet it never breaks down.
it's not like i have lots of cash,,,i don't,,,,,,because of
guess,,,,,,the 7

Pele 04-01-02 07:45 PM

Last summer I slammed my car into the back of Corolla.

I had it in the yard and didn't really know what to do with it. I thought about getting rid of it.

I found a place to store it while I build up cash for a thorough rebuild, including repairing the body, suspension, and steering system damage from the collision, fixing the rust holes in the wheel wells, paint, engine, tranny, and rear axle rebuilds.

Don't give up hope guys. I was unemployed for a while. I now have a job as a Mechanic, a far cry from my intended career in the IT field, but fun none the less.

Keep the car in your back yard so the neighbors don't complain, or move the car somewhere. Cover it and find an old Honda hatchback/wagon. Reliable transportation, and a good parts getter.

Save save save and before you know it, you'll have cash to fix the 7...

Good tips:

Know somebody... I maintain a simple web page for a small car dealership. In return, the body man is going to teach me to paint my 7. YAY!

Get the discount... Mechanics get parts discounts, especially if you work for a reputable shop. Plus you learn a lot. It'll help you immensely. Not only that, but now you have a place to work on the car. Pretty spiffy. Know or Be a mechanic.

Do it right the first time... Don't pull the engine and tranny apart and expect to reuse the clutch. You'll pay for it later. Get what you need before you dismantle. Knowing or being a mechanic will tell you what you need to know.

You'll miss your 7 a lot, I know I do, but I also know in the end, the wait will be worth it. :)

riffraff 04-01-02 07:51 PM

i was trying to get a job with the local rotary mechanic out here. but unfortunitally he is trying to sell his shop, so a no go.. besides the money, the best part that i saw from something like that was the experience. plus i would have all of those cool tools to be able to work on my car after hours.

Doesn't need to be a rotary shop.. You have all the rotary info you need right here.

RX-7 is just like any other car except the engine. Brakes knowledge is good... Steering knowledge is good... Electrical is good... Induction and exhaust is defenately good. It's all conceptual.

A shop is a shop... I work at Merchant's Tire and Auto, a small east coast chain of about 160 stores.

If you don't know much, start out as GS (General Service) and do tires and oil changes. Express the interest of moving up. If you work with good people and have good managers, they will recognize this enthusiasm and move you on to bigger and better things.

riffraff 04-01-02 08:03 PM

well he is the only mechanic that i know.. so i figured that i would give it a shot.. plus i really respect him, and thus would enjoy working under him

Yup.. No fun working for assholes. If my coworkers were assholes, I'd quit.

Blitz0309 04-01-02 08:13 PM

Anyone in the louisville area know of anyplace hiring? Hey, can't blame a guy for tryin..

Jay Cee 69 10-26-02 05:48 PM

lol!i have been out of work for a long time! my car is off the road... it smokes real bad,the door sticks ect ect...luckily i only paid 50 bucks for it lol

someone82 10-26-02 06:43 PM

Go to any one of the Target Corp Stores: Target, Mervans, Marshall Field, and this is the time they start hiring.. It's not a great job, but it's a weekly check and you get a promissed raise... I bring in about $200 dollar checks a week for pushing carts.

WTF? Canada's not exactly raking in American jobs - especially as the US is 'investigating' Canadian grain distribution for the 10th time (despite the fact that the first 9 times under the current structure Canada was found to be well within international trade law) and therefore closing Canada's largest grain market; and don't even get me going on softwood lumber.

You're broke, that sucks. Perhaps George W. should be working on some job creation instead of blaming everything wrong in the US on foreign countries.

82transam 10-26-02 08:42 PM

Bush is too stupid to do that.

Rx7carl 10-26-02 09:11 PM

TJ, at this point put the 7 aside. Bag the engine parts and oil them so they dont rust etc. Find a place to put it. Get the beater and use it to drive daily. Get yourself together and play with the 7, i.e. clean it up, resto type stuff...time intensive not $$$ intensive stuff. And when you get some bux, the start getting her back together. I wish all of you guys outta work good luck. I consider myself lucky in that I am still employed, and working for one of the only 3 US airlines that are making money these days. I've been there though, many layoffs, unemployment run out, no job, it sux big time monkey ass I know.:(

Go Army! I was in for 8 years, 101st Airborne (Recon Scout and LRSD), 3rd Ranger Battalion, 5th SF and 2nd Ranger Battalion. Its not a bad life at all, especially for those that are not married. I got to do really cool high speed stuff and get paid for it, like jump out of aircraft and ride motorcycles. But I'm married now and have a kid, and I couldn't stand spending months and months away from home.

Where you're at you'd probably do your drills at Ft. Knox? Lots of armor there = lots of maintenance and cleaning those tracks.

Probably the biggest plus for everyone on this list is the Autocraft centers that they have on every post. As a soldier you get to go in and rent a bay (I think it was like $4 per hour or less.) They have full jacks and hoists, all the tools you'd ever need, and qualified mechanics on staff for friendly advice when you need it. I spent a lot of my off duty time in there.

I have no regrets whatsoever for having served, and I miss it often. Remember that if you do go in, the most important thing to do is to have fun with everything you do. Play the game and make it fun. Personally I thought that Basic and AIT was a blast!

rotary emotions 10-28-02 04:02 PM

Oh boy, seems that i should quit complaining. I do have a job, so does my wife. Cars are running fine. And I keep making debts (mainly with my wife) to afford goodies...
Guys, I can't really help you out from overhere. But the economy isn't going to wake up if you're (well, not you but the governement) gonna start blaming others for their mistakes... I guess you should get rid of Bush, not make war against Iraq, and use the saved money to create jobs for all those people who want to work, but can't find a job.
Keep strong anyway,

Manntis 10-28-02 04:36 PM

We army and ex-army types have already chimed in on the pros/cons of earning coin through service to your country :) National Guard seems to be a good way to 'ease into' it and see if it's for you... some are happy as citizen soldiers, partying during the week and wargames on the weekends

RotaryMotorDisorter 10-28-02 08:10 PM

Didnt know there was that many bums here lol. Its nice to know im not alone not having a job. It kindof makes me feel good knowing other people into Rx7's go through hell too. Thanks guys. I liked this thred!
