GTech Device...help with using it!
Ok....probably wrong forum section so don't go nuts on me.
Anyway, My GF's bro has got a Gtech unit off ebay, and gave it to me last night to use, only problem is the dude has no instructions with it, he told me a few things but fucked if I could remember them, so does anyone know how to use a Gtech properly? I guess the main thing I'm interested in is the 0-60 time and the HP. I know somewhere you gotta put in the weight of ya car in lbs and then select something else but it's kinda hard with no instructions. Anyone? |
They've got a copy of their instructions on their web site.
The website is www.gtechpro.com for anyone who is interested. Did a run last night.... I got 138HP. Not too bad, I guess.
heh i had my friend set up a gtech in my mostly stock TII, he had set it up in his 280z before, so he knew how to do it... damn thing told me i'd run an 11 sec 1/4 mile and had like 380 hp... i was like man this things stoned.

You can and should correct for any slope in the road by making runs in both directions and averaging the results. There are no perfectly flat roads.
Yup, it uses a few accelerometers so it's orientation to the ground is important.
how do these things work exactly?
im kinda interested. do they work on all cars? like if i got one. I this one alright? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=46100 EDIT:: I read about it, i know the basics now. i think im gonna get one:D |
Yup, they work on all cars. Actually, they'd work on anything. You want to know the 0-60 of you on your bicycle? Just figure out how to mount it.
...and power it
The competition unit has way more features and costs way more too. I bought one when they first realeased the competition but never could get good readings in my 7 due to what the manufacturer says is probably excessive vibrations. It's getting mounted on the kart now so I can keep track of lateral g's and brag about my 3 second 0-60 times. |
Yea for what they want for the comp unit, a few more $ and you can have real data acquisition. Thats my next setp in technology when I get back to racing.
I have one of the original G-Techs, and I love it. It's really helpful in shutting up people who think their car goes "0-60 in 5 seconds and runs 12's in the quarter" when all they drive is a four cylinder Eclipse with a muffler and intake. Heh.
BTW, you don't need to put in the weight for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, you just need it to determine horsepower and lateral G forces. |
Yep.. Thats where I got mine... For $40, cant pass it up.
Just bought one:D

I have the GTECH Pro Comp (The new one) and I was trying to sell it. I've only used it once or twice. It's an awesome tool but I need the cash for other things.
how much?
why would u need the weight to determine the G-force on a car, am i wrong or would the weight have no affect on it at all?
The weight is used to measure horsepower. The g-tech calculates the power using distance, time and weight. You don't need the right weight to use the g-force, just to calcualte the horsepower.

You are correct, sorry for the misstatement on my part. I haven't used it in a while, and all I can remember is that to the left setting is "HP/G force" and on the right side is "0-60,60-0, and 1/4" I just assumed that whenever you pushed the button to the left, it automatically asked for weight, but it asks after you select the HP setting. Anyways, thanks for clearing it up. |
