gsl-se will run but no gas to motor

84 se, put good motor in it, everything hooked up correct. fuel gets to the engine (i know this because after cranking i pulled off the main fuel hose on the engine and fuel sprayed like a hose.) but will not start and the plugs remain dry. i tried a bit of starting fluid and she started!!!! i was told the ecu may be faulty. i pulled it out and it appeared fine but i will not trust it. hopefully one of you guys out there has some good advice. if it may be something else other than the ecu, please let me know. i am certain the injectors are good. thanks.

well it obviously has something to do with the injectors. If your getting fuel at the fuel rail, and its not getting in the engine, than its not going through the injectors. Plain and simple.

A few things could have caused this.
1. You have a wiring problem to the injectors. Try using an ohm meter to check for an open in the circuit.

2. You have a bad ECU. Get out your voltmeter and make sure your getting a signal from the ECU. Since you are getting fuel to the fuel rails, its unlikely that your ECU is totally shot, because the ECU controls the fuel pump. However you may have just fried the portion of the ECU that drives the injectors. Again get that volt meter.

3. Both injectors are dead. This is very unlikely as the injectors would go one at a time rather than both dying at once. Use a battery, and hook it up to the injector and make sure you hear a click. Also OHM them out.

Once you have determened the problem, you must figure out why it happened in the first place. If you dont its doomed to happen again. I cannot stress that enough.

Maybe the negative coil wire that runs to the tach and ecu got disconnected. This will cause the injectors not to fire.

hornbm 10-31-03 07:09 PM

what are you talking about? The tach line doesnt run to the ecu... it just goes to the tach.

gsl-se addict 10-31-03 07:13 PM

Yeah, the negative side of the trailing coil goes to both the ecu and tach. It is labeled 'U' on the ecu connector as shown in the FSM and the Haynes manual. This is how the ecu knows how fast the engine is turning and when to fire the injectors.

Thanks,

Kent

No problem.;) The main reason I know is because I am in the process of intalling a megasquirt ecu on my SE.

mazdaverx713b: Good luck! Hope you track down the problem.

Well, gotta go. This forum keeps logging me out every 2 minutes.

i really appreciate all of the help!!!!! i'll keep posted when the new ecu gets here. it should be on its way. if nothing changes when the new ecu is installed, i will consult the wire in depth more. it prob didn't help that my old ecu was submerged in water when it fell victim when water poured in from holes in the wheel wells and soaked it. although, you really couldn't tell it had gotten wet. again, thanks you guys for helping me. dave

DO you need an ECU from a GSL-SE?

I don't need mine anymore, because I went carburated. You want it for a few bucks?

mazdaverx713b 11-01-03 09:28 PM

i just bought one for 25 bucks off of ebay. i may want another as a spare just in case. how much???

Spinner-D(eluxe) 11-01-03 10:24 PM

Oh I'd just send it to ya for the cost of shipping. Let me package it up, and I'll find out how much it will cost to ship to you if you email me your mailing address to derekbentley@yahoo.com.

You could through in few bucks if you feel generous. Lets talk through email though.
