not sure what my car really is. it's an 83, but i don't know if it's a GSL-SE or something else. the GSL-SE pics i've seen said gsl-se on them, but mine only says gsl. the main reason y i ask is so i know what rim pattern i have. any info would be great--thanx

GSL-SE was only offered in 84-85.

Yep.
The SE stood for Special Edition, which is exactly what it was in 84-85.The SE had nearly all its powertrain and running gear upgraded for performance and to match its bigger, fuel injected engine.
The GSL was offered from 81 to 85 as the top of the line version of the regular, carbureted 12A RX-7.It still had the same 100HP 12A engine as the lesser models, however. Thus, for performance and race enthusiasts the GSL is often reffered to as a porker. The GS and especially S models were lighter and simpler so the 100HP felt like more.
Most notable traits only offered on the GSL were the limited slip rearend and rear disc brakes. It also came with power everything, although the lesser GS models did have some of these luxury options. But they were stuck with rear drums and an open diff.

The GSL-SE's biggest giveaway(besides the embelem) were its 14" wheels that were almost flush, with no rim lip. These wheels had a different lug pattern than the other 1srt gens and were required to clear the SE's bigger brakes.
