gsl-se w/sa22 bumpers
I was wondering if its possible to put sa22 bumpers on a gsl-se or gsl fb.
or if you could put an fb interior into an sa22 chassis although that seems like more work. what about tail lights? any compatibility there? Thanks! |
to swap bumpers you need to swap the lower valance, both fenders for proper fitment. I think the rear bolts in place with no major problems.

To add to the previous items...
FB tail light openings have an extra metal plate spot welded in place on the outboard side of each opening. FB tails bolt through these. They can be removed by drilling out the welds. SA's have the recessed sheet metal center section between the tail lights. The SA tail light lenses are designed to nest into this recess. If you place an SA tail light lens on an FB body, they will not sit flush as there is no recess on the FB. You can remove material from the SA tail light lens and make them to fit. SA's have a slightly different front black plastic grille than the FB's. I'm currently doing an '85 GSL resto, but converting it to SA front and rear bumpers, tail lights, side moldings - best combination of interiors and exteriors, IMO. What are you thinking about doing? |
^ want to do the same thing, only I dont want to change the tail lights.
pm me sometime with details on how you plan do do it, would be interesting |

Here is mine. its just an 85 GS but the idea is still the same. all of the sheet metal in the front of the car came from a 79 SA22, even the headlight motors and covers came from the SA. As stated above you will need to swap the fenders, bumper shocks, as well as the grill / valence to ensure a proper fit. Hope this helped! |
Everybody wants an SA!

lol some good info in this thread.
long story short I want an SA but cannot deal with how dated the interior is. I love the later model interior (gsl-se is what i owned before) the sa's look way cleaner to me w/out the giant wrap under bumper. I plan on probably using zero trim and sa bumpers with the bumper shocks about 2 inches compressed. How close are the fenders to being a match? could you pull it off with just the bumper and bottom piece? I want to try and get rid of the surfboard nose to make it cleaner looking like this savanna model i found lol. \/ \/ **on a side note anyone know where to find the second pic front end? probably the best looking body kit i've seen on 1st gens. |
rx7 guy got a rear pic?

Pretty sure that's a slightly modified FB model with SA wheels that you're looking at.. |
lol ya you're right but the nose still looks a little more blunt.
It is supposed to be the savanna model but they must've been mistaken and used an fb for it instead. |

Imagine that RC car with the Rotary engine they put in RC airplanes. The cycle would continue.
Back on subject, I can tell you the headliner with sunroof from an FB won't match with an SA. I delicately used metal screws and washers to attach it to the frame to keep it from sagging. I've got GSL-SE seats. I used to really like the smoothness of the FB but have grown to enjoy the SA's unique styling, the mirrors, metal bumpers, license plate lights, tail lights, waffle wheels, and the dash that makes you feel like you're in a small airplane. I can't blame you for wanting an SA look-a-like. |

Its enough to keep the REAL thing on the road  |
