Talking GSL-SE tranny into a SA..... and pulled it off

Today I pulled off transplating a 85 GSL-SE tranny into my 79 rx7.... All when smooth until I got to the shifter it's self. I had to notch the trans tunnel about 2 1/2" back and make a new cover plate to cover part of the orginal hole, but all in all it came out cherry.

The gear box, feels much more solid and percise and I really enjoy the taller 5th gear, so I won't be reving at nearly 4 grand @ 80mph.

hopefully I'll have some picture soon..

Oh and the reason why I swaped in a gsl-se tranny... I bent a shift-fork in my tranny and I got it only for 85 dollars

Thumbs up

BTW,
did you also swap the driveshaft?

I'm having the same problem but I also swapped the diff. pinion gear to the smallest one possible.

I'm currently looking for a GSL-SE trannie or a 12A '85 trannie to put into my 12A SA Elford turbo...

but then again.... now I drive 4K RPM @170KPH (=110MPH ?)
So I must not complain to much
A rotary should be run at higher RPM's

Mireck12a- I just used the GSL driveshaft that I put in when I swapped in the GSL rear-end. If you have a 79/80 you'll need a 81-85 driveshaft, otherwise your a-ok

680RWHP12a- ventura pd drove me nuts when I had my bug (1835/twin44's/merged header w/stinger) But I haven't been pulled over once in my rx7 but I the full racing beat exhuast, so it relitivly quiet . Ojai cops are worse tho, cause they have nothing to do.

I so want to do a turbo... my car is just beggin for a blow thur setup and when taxes come back it shall be a reality.
