GSL SE TP sensor problems
 

I was wondering if you guys could help me out here. I just bought a GSL SE and I've been trying to smooth out the idle. I've been trying to adjust the TP Sensor using the the two lights bulbs, but either both lights come on or they both turn off and when switching them on and off there is a ticking sound coming from the vacuum control solenoid valve. Also, I think it's a TP Sensor from a 12a model, because the wire's colors don't match the wiring harness's colors. Would it be possible to use a 12a model TP Sensor in an SE and if so how would you adjust it?

Cant help you on the 12a vs 13b TPS (but I doubt they are swapable if I had to guess) but this has helped fix almost all of my idle issues in my SE.

i think the s4 ones are very similar.

Well, I've been messing with it all day today and now the car won't idle. it has no power, the engine shakes really bad, and it sounds like the eninge is running on only one rotor and missing really bad, but the wierd thing is I can hold the rpm's at 800 with the throttle and it idles fairly steady.

Don,t think tps would cause what you are describing tps might cause engine to run erratically or lope at a steady throttle position.

Tps is not your problem. I have heard of guys using the 12a sensors but I don't know if they calibrate correctly. The S4's will work also.

Have you put a timing light on her and made sure your leading ignition is working?

I will check the ignition tommorrow. Could it be a Vacuum leak? I don't really know if it's losing power, but it revs really slow. Do you know if I would adjust the tps like it is on the 12a or 13b.

Vacuum leak is always a possibility.
Don't concern yourself with the TPS at this time.

I think it's either one of the following though.

Leading side is not firing. (most common)
Fuseable link at the strut tower for the injectors is bad. Can verify by starting the engine and wiggling the connections. Sometimes better just to remove and replace with know good ones. Can use the headlamp ones for this purpose.
Restricted cat, if still running stock exhaust system.
Low compression in one of the housings.

There are still other factors but this will give you a pretty good idea.

Well I pulled out the plugs to see if they were firing and they were black and covered with carbon, but they were all firing. So I replaced them with some other ones I had. I then switched the fuel injector fusible link with one of the headlight ones and started it up. It fixed the running like crap problem, but I still had a rough idle, like before. I went and found another good TPS from a 12a model stuck that in there and now it runs like a champ! Thanks for the help!
