Gsl-se stumbles on acceleration
 

Hello all,

I started my 1984 gsl-se today, for the first time in a few months.
The snow is gone, roads are basically clear so time to warm the cars up a little.
As some of you may know, my car is a low mileage mint condition example.
I have owned it over a dozen years and absolutely no probs ever.
It is clean, well tuned and a special car.

Anyway, I charged the battery a little, and it started to life instantly.
Ran rock solid and I filmed it going thru its warm up.

Then I drove around the block several times, etc, ran it thru gears and all was just super.
In my driveway I revved it up to 3,4,5k for a few seconds, ran and sounded super.

Out on the road though, if I step on it past 3, it seemed to instantly lose power and
bog down a little. It did not die ever or stall, just didnt like go past 3-4k without
a loss of power and stumble.

If I stopped, put in neutral, it revs up fine past 3,4,5, flawlessly.
So when I got back home, I thought I would send this out there to see what
other people had to say.

Im thinking maybe fuel pressure, or coils, throttle sensor.
Any thoughts feel free to comment.

Sounds like mech secondaries, can you feel extra tension when you press your foot on the throttle around the 1/2 - 3/4 range?

Hmmn... that is a good thought.
I did feel a very slight resistance at pedal depression, while driving only though.
I would say only about 10 % more though at the most.
Doesnt the back pressure open them while revving at idle though also ?
Car in nuetral revving was perfect.

Secondaries as in ports or secondaries as in TB butterfly valves? Those could be getting stuck, and putting tension on the throttle cable. Though if you can press the gas all the way down, they probably open ok. Check your fuel pressure, though, yeah?

when was the last time the fuel filter and spark plugs was changed?

The fuel filter probably has about 1k miles on it or less.
The spark plugs I havent checked, Im in the process of pulling them tonight,
they are about the same, less than 1k.

It has been a few months since I drove the car, the winter was impossible.

I was thinking the seconday ports, actuator system,etc... rather than secondary throttle body
plates.. I will check them also as routine tommorow.

Yeah, when I rev it up in nuetral, parked, after about 4k, it really evens outs smooth and just climbs. Its only on the road I get the loss.

Fuel pressure and flow. Check the secondaries for sue, because it fits the problem, but it whispers marginal fuel pump to me.

secondaries as in the 6-port actuators, if they get stuck open it can throw off the intake. They usually stick closed though, in which case you just loose some HP above ~5k or whenevet they kick in on your car (backpressure dependant).

Look at the plug wires when it's pitch black out - I had old wires make it run crappy in the rain, had a similar problem as I recall.

I think this RPM range is when the TPS is ignored and the O2 sensor handles the fuel mix. You can hook up a diag light to the control module under the passenger seat to see if there are any codes.
