GSL-SE Starter Question

4 Attachment(s)
I am currently using a rebuilt Advance Auto starter on my SE. The stock bolts are too long and I have to "stack" a couple nuts in order to install the starter. Has anyone else ever noticed this? Can someone measure the depth of the "shoulder" on a stock starter. I suspect it is a lot deeper. This is what I am using currently

Your bolt is what's wrong. The GSL-SE is supposed to use a bolt that threads into the starter like all 1st gens. The thread pitch is supposed to be 10mm x 1.5

It looks like you have an FC tranny. I suspect you have an FC bolt which is a longer through-bolt and uses a nut with a flat washer and lock washer. The thread pitch is 10mm x 1.25.

Did you drill out the threaded hole in the starter to use your long bolts? I hope not. It just complicated things. You probably won't be able to return the starter now.

I believe everything is stock and original to the car except the starter. The transmission is an FB GSL-SE as far as I know. My Uncle had the car for a few years, but I don't think he changed the tranny, I'll check with him though. I know he changed the starter, so perhaps the bolts got switched out. The long bolt does thread into the starter, but I have two nuts on the engine side that the bolt passes through, otherwise the bolt would be too long. Anyone have GSL-SE starter bolts they could measure?

Jeff
You are correct about the bolts. Both the lower and upper are 3/16-16 standard. They are close to m10 1.50. Must have been switched out when my uncle put in a new starter. Thanks.
