GSL-SE New exhaust!

wel, finally got a new exhaust on my GSL-SE. the setup is a Racing beat header, then a 2 1/2 in. straight pipe back to a magnaflow muffer. The car is LOUD, but thats how i like my rotarys. THe tone is very deep until you get to the high rpms, then it just screams! I have already had some pretty big flames come out from behind it. The muffler seems to be pretty strong, but i will see how it hold up.

yeah, i noticed that, ive had the gas tank out a few times, so i must not have put something back on tight, im thinkin i should get to that this weekend, haha.

i forgot to mention the power difference, OMG. its crazy. and even the free revs are much smoother and quicker. The car is definetly loving it.

Why do you want to do that? Are you pushing well over 500 hp with a turbo? Anything larger than 2.5" on a naturally aspirated street engine is worthless and will start to hurt your power. More is not better.

:werd:

rookie117, what did you do with the aux ports? I thought the RB headers for SE's came with the lil Vac connection for the actuators? Does that one have it?
I've never really seen one, therefor, I ask.

geowit 12-28-06 11:34 AM

Looks real sweet.

Just had our '80 at KDR for a dyno and Dave installed a 2.5" straight pipe from the header to the rear bumper. INSANE loud. :MissileSm We're going to try a SuperTrap to meet the db level requirement of some of the tracks.

is bigger the pipe the beter? or i can go 3 inch.

rotarygod 12-28-06 01:13 PM

No bigger is not always better. Bigger is only better when you've maxed out what you've got. When you get too big you lose exhaust gas velocity which will hurt your power. You'll make less if you go larger than you need to. Stick to a 2.5" and call it a day. If you've got a peripheral port engine that needs to be tuned up high, then you'd need a 3". Until then just forget about going larger than a 2.5". It won't help at all.

openshot 12-28-06 02:46 PM

oh. thanks. what type of metel did you use? i am going to use stanless steel.

i pulled them out, most people say that i would have no low-end power, but i didnt notice that big of a difference. This is a older Racing Beat header, and i think the precilencers usually have the vac connection anyways. im making a video today/tomorro and wil have it edited by this weekend!

glosoli 12-28-06 04:36 PM

thats real good to know..
cant wait for the vid.
