What methods did you use for the vinyl and plastic?....dye, paint, Colorbond.

I take it the carpet was replacement?

Looks really nice.

No clear coats at all. I did exactly what my uncle told me to do who owns a automotive interior shop where he does this all the time and works with material and dye so hopefully I wont need clear. And besides that I don't want that fake shinny look. The dash has been in the car now for over 3 months and been using it as a daily driver back and forth to work - 5 miles and is holding up well as of now.

I do know that I will have to find some new plastics where the carpet comes to the edge of the door as I feel that will be getting rubbed on by my shoes and will wear thru so might need to find some black ones or atleast gray ones. I will probally scuff those with a light sand paper.

When the dash was out of the car I scrubbed it with a good stiff brush using a hand soap to get all the grease off.
I then only used SEM products as told to me my Uncle Mike.
SEM makes a cleaner, and a prep for vinal and plastic. I used these going over the whole dash several times, in different directions and using different rags.

Once all the cleaning was done, then all the prep was done I left it covered up for a few nights. I came back and took a brush and used the prep and scrubbed the hard to reach areas and in the grooves.

After all that I found the SEM black dye that I wanted as there are a few different colors. I sprayed the whole dash in several light coats using two cans. I let sit for a few days and then came back to do the same thing but this time outside in the sun to make sure I got all the angles and al the grooves.

Again i left it to dry a few days then one day I felt that it was time to install.
Let me tell you, don't try to install by yourself. Have two if not three people.
Big pain in the rear as I forgot how I pulled everything because I pulled the dash several months before to swap out the heater core.

For those of you who are deciding to do this, go to SEM's website and get the part numbers you want. Get on the net and do a search and you might find some good prices. One can of the black I used was like 12.00 and I have used over 6-7 cans and I am not half way done. I had to hold up as I was getting the headliner redone in black material. Now to get back to work.

Good luck to all and thanks for the comments. I hope to have it all black by next spring so I can take it to Deals Gap.
Chad
