gsl-se in junkyard wars

in there yard during the jw goes to the movies, when the monster(red team) is looking for golf balls/ ammo, there is a very clear shot of an SE rim hangin from a car smashed in the middle of a pile of cars

just a heads up if u catch another showing of it

Lotus00 02-22-04 11:48 PM

I was watching that, but I missed the rex. oh well, looks like ill be watching the re-run tomorrow (or whenever it is supposed to be) :p:

mazdaverx713b 02-23-04 01:00 PM

i missed it. anyone have a pic or video of it?

KehoeAutomotive 02-23-04 01:47 PM

Does anyone really believe that they build that stuff in a single day?

We have all done little projects to our cars and we all know it takes longer the 12 hours to build a tractor/boat/drag racer etc.

Tanjo 02-23-04 01:58 PM

Sorry, a little off topic, but yesterday i was snowboarding, and there was an SE (my first time seeing one) in the parking lot at the pass. That guy is crazy to drive that car in the snow, up in the mountains.

Ya no kiddin. Salt and sand just makes me kringe inside. Theres no way I'd pump money into my rex and then drive it in the winter.

I don't think sevens were made for Canadian winters......

It's amazing where they can go if need be. In 1987-88 this RX-7 drove to ski races in Austria, Germany, France, and Italy. I had wheel chains, and a winch and rope to pull it out if it got stuck, and often packed the skis inside in case of rollover. But the car always did its part getting wherever I needed to go. Here is waiting for clearing an avalanche near St. Anton I think.

Actually it was two days, 20hrs. With three or four people who know what they are doing, all the tools they could wish for at their disposal, and a concerted effort, yes it is done within that time. The whole show is setup however in that all of the parts are avialable in the scrap heap, but hidden to make it more authentic and to make the contestants actually have to scrounge for them plus they are allowed to grab other parts if they find something that may be useful that wasn't thought of. The contestants also have to pass proficiency tests too otherwise they are not chosen to be on the show. Pretty much just technical math, hand tool useage and welding knowledge.

BTW, I saw the 7. Poor GSL-SE :(

Keaponlaffen 02-24-04 12:10 AM

oh yeah man, I built my go-kart in like 5 hours total by myself, and it was pretty complicated...

then again, I had a full shop, access to 4 lathes, 2 MIG welders, a plasma cutter, torch, chop saw, etc etc....

it's very possible though... you just have to be a good "botcher" ;)

genrex 02-24-04 12:32 AM

Tanjo, what color was the SE?

I go up to Snoqualmie quite a bit.. could've been me.

KehoeAutomotive 02-24-04 08:02 AM

Do you think they have the parts already available to them?? IE not have to drive around that heap to "find" parts for their projects.

When they were building the tractors they suddenly "found" two PERFECT R1 Rice paddy Tractor Tires already mounted in perfect condition ready to go.

Keaponlaffen 02-24-04 09:06 AM

yeah, I think it's rigged, but otherwise it's entertaining.... 'cause having two tractor tires isn't going to do you much good if you can't build anything to put them on.

85rotarypower 02-24-04 11:59 AM

It is quite real. They have any tool you might need to get the job done. There is also an endless supply of rechargable batteries for the cordless tools. As for the junkyard itself, it is made on an old parking lot that the company bought. The parts are all placed beforehand. They are just hidden to make it more interesting. The reason that it takes us a long time to do a project is because we want it done right and safely. The teams on JW don't care. If something breaks, use the fix everything tool, duct tape.

Did i say Snoqualmie? Shit. I ment Stevens. Anyways, it was red. and it was on this past sunday
