GSL-SE Engine Bay
hey guys,
Looking to delete as much as possible on my SE being that i no longer have AC, cold start mechanism, i do have headers and got rid of the charcoal can.....i am basically looking into simplifying as much as i can and going for that clean look, ......running na, no turbo on this one. TIA! please post pics of your SE engine bay! |
Not a good idea if you want the EFI to run well.
Everything on an EFI 13b in an FB is there for a reason. Mazda slimmed it down from the normal rats nest to only what needs to be there to support vacuum ignition advance, oil squirters, and the BACV functions, even if you disconnected the AC it still smoothes idle for alt and electric drain compensation. If you start pulling stuff out, take pics and keep it in a box, because youll most likely not be happy with how the engine runs thereafter.

As LongDuck said, everything in the engine compartment IS there for a reason. There is no hp gain by removing/deleting what's there. What WILL happen, especially when cold out, cold engine,is fouled plugs/flooded engine since you're taking away all the cold idle assist.
Your fuel economy will tank by disabling/removing solenoid rack that controls vacuum advance.Maybe you really want a non SE carbed FB if you want that"clean"look of stripping all the emission controls. I don't know what kind of condition your car is in...you could completely remove the FI system and manifolding and install a carb/intake on engine and remove high pressure fuel pump and install a low pressure pump with a regulator suitable for a carb setup. When i was younger i hot rodded and cut up several 1st gens, wrecked a couple too. As i've gotten older,i appreciate the cars more, and they are beginning to appreciate in value now. It is possible to do some understated upgrades that don't detract from the value/looks of the car that improve the performance of engine, brakes, suspension to allow the car to run, handle and stop its best. This can be achieved without chopping up the car, cutting out(unneeded?). wiring, etc. It's also possible to do these mods in such a manner that they could all be removed to return car to original condition and maximum value. Figure out what you want the car to be and THINK before removing/modifying anything and SAVE EVERY COMPONENT,NUT,BOLT you remove from the car. Even if you have no intention of putting the car back to original, these parts are valuable to someone trying to repair/maintain/restore their SE and could be donated or sold to another member on the forum. |
Car runs better with everything https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...887d8ec34.jpeg |
Any adverse effect to removing air pump? That’s the only thing I’m considering removing because I want to add a racing beat exhaust to my GSLSE |
