GSL-SE - Dopped a bolt in the LIM!

I removed the upper intake to put in my recently cleaned injectors in when I accidently dropped one of the upper intake bolts into the lower intake manifold

i tried dropping a magnet in there to see if it'll grab it but because of the curves i had no luck...what are the chances it fell all the way into the housing? does anyone have a writeup on removing the LIM?

DAMNIT :banghead:

you can get flexible devices that have 4 claw-like wire bits on the end - push a button on the andle and the claws come out. Release it and they retract, gripping the item.

You should also be able to get similar flexible tools with magnets on the end.

Probably didn't fall into the housing as that's a 90 degree bend horizontally.

sorry to hear that, man! :(

don't panic yet, though. as long as you don't turn the engine you'll get it. i know ... years ago i did the same thing ... TWICE!

the magnet is your friend. did you see which of the 4 holes it went in?

manifold removal:

4 main outer bolts (12 mm)
2 center bolts (12 mm) - but they are PITA to get to because of the 5/6 port actuators.

WOOHOO got it out!

thanks guys and especially Pele who thought of the shopvac idea....it sucked it out and it was jiggling in the hose as if the vac couldn't pull it all the way up so i pulled the hose off the intake and caught the bolt in the air as if i had jedi reflexes ;)

phewww! that was a close call...

I just replaced an oil metering line on my SE which required removing the upper intake. I wondered the whole time what would be the course of action if a nut fell in there.
A shop vac, that is awsome.
