Got my first rotary...

Hey people, I've been browsing the forum for awhile and now have the time for a first post. The past couple of weeks have been a blast in the new car. I blew my 85 Corolla engine and the RX-7 is the daily driver and will be built up stronger when the Corolla is back up. Both cars are going to be built for drifting.

84 GSL-SE
Tockio shocks all around on Eibach springs
RB front and rear sway bars
13b with a streetport
SDS fuel management which revs to 9750rpm
K&N air filter with RB header and exhaust
MSD SCI with coils
air pump and rats nest removed

I haven't hit the dyno yet so I'm guessing around 150hp unless anyone else can chime in. I'm planning to do poly-u bushings and get a front strut bar. I'm going to strip the interior and do up a roll cage. And over the winter I'll be putting together a turbo setup, I'm just looking at manifolds and the rest of the stuff I have piled up already. This thing likes to do doughnuts as much as my Corolla does. Totally different beast. Trina is her name, triangles is the theme.

This is my 1st project, Gina, it's better for smaller courses and spanking Skylines. I took a few out in competitions. The 7 will blow her out the gates but the suspension is allot more tuned so I favor her for the time being.

Is it just me or do you have the same rims on the front of the Corrola as you do on the back of the 7?

The rims on the front of the 7 are really funky.

Nice cars anyway. Welcome to the forum :)

Nice car, as long as you dont rev it to 9750 :)

PvillKnight7 07-19-07 07:35 PM

im digging the rims

You rev that engine to 9750RPM and you will be replacing it soon also. I hate to hear when someone is abusing a 7. :-( Treat the vehicle with a little respect. :-)

Nice ride, Ive heard about it from a friend that works with you. He drives the turbo e30. If you ever want a hand wrenching on that thing let me know, I like working on the 7's.

The guy that helped me tune the car had a shop in Vancouver and all he built was Wankel engines. If he says that it revs to almost 10k then I believe him. Will I take it there? Probably not, all I know is if I miss a shift when the 'horn' goes off at 7k, I won't kill the engine. With SDS I can add or reduce fuel along the whole fuel curve, it helps allot with hot days and cold idles.

The rims are the same from the Corolla as the bolt pattern is 4x114.3. I have a stack of rims and swap them out as I feel, most of the rubber is toast though.

Qbuilt, so you know Michael? Nice, I just saw his dyno sheet yesterday, pretty impressive. Do you have a turbo in your 7? If so, maybe you could help turbo mine. Have a bunch of questions and I'd like to take a look and see what I'm up against. Is there a local RX-7 club in Edmonton?

Yah Mikes car is pretty impressive. Yes, my car has a turbo but its old school stlye. 12a blowthru. Your car is fuel injected is it not. Regardless Id could defineltly give you some help on turboing yours.

Sweet, thanks man. I'm picking up a FC turbo manifold in the next couple of days which will complete the parts list I need. What side of the city are you on?

Qbuilt 07-20-07 10:27 PM

West End.

Good to see someone else from Edmonton. Looks like a good car. :)

Dude, I saw pictures of your car and I likely. I'd like to meet the both of you. My car is pretty setup aside from the front struts. A 4th gear pull, I was able to keep up to my buddy's cefiro until he hit his speed cut and then I pulled pretty fast.

Dan_s_young 07-22-07 01:15 PM

Thanks it's $$$, but it's sure a fun hobby. Yeah, I will hopefully start going to more events and meets when the car is finally finished... Hoping to have it on the road for next spring.

Nice little seven you got there man!

Just a suggestion if your setting it up for drifting. Get a tri link and a panhard bar.

My buddy drifts his turbo first gen, and a tri link was one of hte best things he said he ever bought. And he has a cage and coilovers and what not.

But looks like you got a nice start with a good car. Diggin the hell out of the wheels!

I've taken out for a drift session and it can do drift 8's until it runs out of gas, smokes tires like mad.

I'm still learning about the rear suspension in the 7. School me about the tri-link and panhard. All I see is the upper and lower links and the watt links. Am I missing something here?

On another note, can I use an S4 turbo manifold on my engine?

I have an FD that I want tuned. Does the shop you mention in Vancouver have a dyno.? I replaced the stock computer with an AEM and need someone with good tuning skills to get it running smooothly. Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Welcome to the darkside

teddyrx2 01-01-08 09:42 PM

I like both of your cars there very clean and original bro

Jeff20B 01-02-08 01:34 AM

This is the light side.

got_ae86 01-03-08 06:59 PM

The guy that tuned my car moved to the states so I think the shop is gone out of Van now. Sorry dude, I'm pretty sure you should be able to find someone that's knowledgable with AEM. Where did you get the AEM computer from? Maybe they can refer you to somone that can help you tune.

Dark or light side, it's your choice. I'm on the winning side though. As soon as the snow melts here the engine is coming out and a turbo is going in. I'm using a smaller turbo so it should spool fast and kick ass. I'll take pictures of the turbo and post them soon.

Just don't paint the Rx-7 pink ok? lol Welcome to the forum.
