gilmer belt drive
i got the gilmer belt drive about a year ago and had no probs installing it on the stock waterpump... that water pump just went out and put the new one on and the water pump pulley touches the water pump. It shouldnt. have any of you guys had this problem????

ultimatejay lost a few HP by switching to Gilmer

I had a stock pulley that would lightly rub an aftermarket impeller housing/casting. A stock housing wouldn't do this. The solution at the time was to switch to another stock pulley that was manufactured slightly different which didn't rub. Next time I mess with it I'll simply grind 1mm off the casting. It's gotta get painted anyway to match the engine it's going on. :D
You know the noise those gilmer setups make? Creating noise = power robbing. It may be just a small amount, but if ultimatejay lost power, that could be the reason. The only noisy belt setup I will use is a Camden SC because they at least add power while boosting. |
I want to get the glimer drive cause i get some bad belt slippage in the 8000rpm+ range drag racing

You might consider a serpentine belt setup from Atkins. It costs about the same but is not power robbing. They sell both types of waterpump pullies now. I know this because I got one for a 74-85 waterpump (4 bolt, small pattern).
