getting a rebuild running
 

i've been working on taking out and taking apart my 12a for the past month(whenever i have the time ie. not often) now and im finally at the stage where i can start cleaning it up and putting it back together. my question is...do any of you have tips or tricks to getting this puppy up and running? i plan to follow the directions in the factory manual but i really dont know if there is anything special i hav to do the first time i actually try to start it. thanks for any hints/tips/tricks/jerryrigging ;) you can give me and everyone else out there curious about rebuilding.

i tried rebuilding a 12A and learnt the tricks that would proble have gotten it running and saved me money in the end.

firstly if ur using secondhand apex seals make sure they sit fluch agianst the housing, because the create a bridge in the middle, so hold it agiasnt the wall and shine a torrch behind it, if u see light passing tru then get some 1200 gri wet and dry papper and make em flat agian, also try and make the tip more of a point.

when tring to get it running u need to use a fair bit of oil down the carby to build up the first bit of compression thats needed to get it going,

well assuming you follow the manual for assembly and everything gets put back together okay, i'll skip that stage an go straight to startup.

the only thing i do is make sure that there is a LOT of oil on the inner surfaces of the motor AND make sure that you crank it with the plugs out until you start getting an oil pressure reading (just be sure not to overheat the starter :D) ... then put the plugs in and fire it up!

Be gentle on it the first 1000 miles, its not to get it running, but to make it run longer and better.
