Gas Tank Troubles!
Heyo Peeps!
My Gas Tank, is not Repairable, or at least that's what the Mechanic said. I'll believe him... But my question is, what Gas Tanks are compateble with an 85 GS RX-7 with few, if any, mods to get it to work. My Car's down because of this, Gas Prices are way too high for me to be leaking Gas. So I'm stuck driving my Clunky Ford Tempo 91... I miss the RX-7... |
Try and find one at a salvage yard.

Well I can get a hold of one from an 85 GSL-SE and I just want to make sure that it's compatible with my car.
That and there aren't many First Gens in the Junk yards around here... =P |
My experience has been that all 1st gens are compatible. The primary differences are the 80-81 change in body lines, and manual-automatic differences underneath.

The 13B tank is the same as the 12A tank IIRC
|
Thank you!!!
But uh... What does IIRC Mean? Just call me Newbie! Heh heh... |
If I Recall Corectley
|
As IIRC (If I Really Cared)
:p: |
Must Resist Urdge to drive all the way to Jackson Michigan to beat rx7 Freek w/ Baseball bat...
-.- |
Don't be so sensitive.
:fruit: :piss: |
freek, you are bad.
|
I just found out yesterday what IIRC means. And WOT...is that when on throttle?
|
No WOT is Wide Open Throttle... Kinda like Peddle to the Metal

Find someplace that repairs gas tanks. I just had mine repaired and they can pretty much fix Anything. Plus they can coat it inside and out with a lifetime warranty if you want. Too bad you don't live in minnesota i could tell you to go to Gas Tank Renu.
I say Pick up the Yellow Pages or superpages.com and try to find someone that fixes gas tanks, if not then find someone that repairs radiators. They most likely can do it, and if not can point you in the right direction to someone that can. Thats what happened to me and i'm happy as a clam now. I can finially put in a full tank of gas, and it's going to be a triumphant event when that happens. :) :) |
13B (GSL-SE) tanks do not fit in an SA22C without modification, IIRC. Something about they hang lower, and are different because of the fuel injection. I have no idea if that means they won't be a smooth swap into an '85.
|
Gavin... Allready done that... They say it's not Repairable... Or else it would have been fixed allready!
My life sucks I know!!! Right but an SA22C isn't that an RX-7 Year 79-80 Right? Or am I wrong, mine's an FB which would be 81-85 if I remember right. Since the 85 GSL-SE and GS have the same Body Type, the only major differences are the Engine and Transmission Mounts I think, body wise at least. |
Ok so here is the deal...
The 84-85 13B & 12A powered cars share the same gas tank. Verified by My own experiance, and Mazdatrix web site. It also shows that 79-80 cars share the same tank, and 80-83 have a third tank. So there are three tanks out there for the firt gen RX-7 79-80 80-83 84-85 Here is the link to Mazdatrix Clickey Clickey |
Thank You Anthrax!!! I owe you one!
I really Appreciate this guys! I'll be driving my Rusty, but incredebly smooth Riding RX-7 This Weekend to be sure! I'm so happy now. |
No Problem
I drove my first RX7 around for three weeks with a hole in the gas tank. It would only hold 6 Gal of fuel. I can relate to your position |
