Gas Tank

I have been doing some research and nothing found thus far.

I recently had my car up on a hoist the other day and I noticed one of the lines coming from the gas tank leads to nowhere. It just hangs there. I am guesing this is the fuel tank vent, but should it not go up to the charcole canister?

Basicly what I am asking is where do all the hoses go that connect to the gas tank?

BTW I have a 1985 GSL

Thanks, Ted.

There should be 3 hoses on the tank. The largest is the fuel supply, the next biggest is the return. The smallest hose is the vent. It goes thru the "Check and Cut " valve just in front or the tank (above the rear axle) then to the charcoal canister.

Do you have a picture of that area by any chance?

Bump, and is there a hoes that does not conect to anything from the "Check and Cut" valve. I looked in the Haynes manual and it is practicaly usless. In the Haynes diagram there is a hose that comes out of the check and cut valve, yet goes nowhere. It gets cut off in teh Haynes manual. If anyone has any imput I need it badly. My car smells of Gas terribly.

Where does the circled hose go?

Rogue_Wulff 04-21-06 03:28 PM

To the hard line just in front of the pump. That is the supply line to the carb.

I was wondering the same thing, because mine is the same way. I can get under the car and get a pic of this. It seems like it just goes into a little black metal round thing on the frame and sits there.

The line runs from the pump, to the cut-off valve on the frame, then to the hard line ahead of the pump mounting cover.

Wow that just blew right past me. Could you hook me and $100T with a diagram?

Rogue_Wulff 04-21-06 04:33 PM

The only diagram I have, is the same thing you posted. I'd try to get a pic of the setup on my car, but I can't get far enough under it, and the jack is across town at the shop.......

OK, I just popped under the car... Convenient, since it's up on jackstands. I'm getting ready to replace all these hoses (BTW, what size are they all?) so I'm glad we're clearing this up. The one I'm wondering about is the 9 or 10 inch long one that seems to just make a 90 degree bend and then stop.

The 90* one goes into the hole of the cup, bolted to the frame rail. That is there to catch any fuel spill that gets past the check valve by the tire well, in case of a roll over.

I am 95% sure that we are talking about the same hose lol.

$100T2 04-21-06 07:26 PM

Yeah, that's what I figured.

What size is all that hose? 1/4, 5/16?
