Gas pooring down carb when Key on
 

I'm new here and this is my first post. I just bought my first RX7 and I'm in the process of fixing it up right now. This website looks to be very helpful, and I have already learned allot. Working on this car is just great, I cant wait to get out and drive it around.

That brings me to the problem. When I hooked up the battery and turned on the key for the first time gas started pooring down the carb out of some sort of vent. So I took the fuel lines off and cleaned them up since they had lots of crud buildup in the little screens, then I went and bought a Haynes Manuel and after studing a bit I think the problem is whats called the Air Vent Solenoid, because when I hook it up to battery power like the test says it does nothing at all. So then I go the the good ole Auto parts store and they cant even get it at all, except though a Mazda Dealer ordering "over night parts for Japan" lol

So does anyone have a spare Solenoid to sell me?

Check the sight windows on the front and back of the carb. Is the fuel level in the middle of both of them? You will need a mirror to see the rear one. If you can't see the fiel line, the float needles are probably sticking. Tap the carb on the fuel bowls and see if the will loosen up. The vent solenoid opens with power, closes when off. My money is on the floats sticking. If the car has set for a while with old gas in it, rebuild the carb.

Post a wtb in the for sale section for the solenoid.

i had the same problem, it was the vent solinoid. but with mine we just took it aparent and cleaned it. i might have a spare since i have like 4 xtra carbs. pm me so i dont forget to check.

Yes it has sat for a while, and I will check the sight windows first thing when I get home tonight. I really dont want to have to rebuild the carb just to drive this car around, but I will if I have to.
If it isn't the float then I will let you know about the solenoid.

i have the same problem. when i shut the car down, fuel continues to pour into the carb until the pressure is gone. what i did was ran the fuel pump power wire through my cruise control switch (i have no cruise since i removed it), and then when i want to shut down, i hit the switch to turn off the fuel pump, and let the car die on its own. it works for now, but i'd like to hear how you turn out with your new thingy since i should probably do the same.

is there a way to test if the wiring to it is working? anyone?

Ground a test light between the solenoid supply wire and earth. Key on/light on, key off/light off.

I checked the sight glasses and the front was just fine but the rear wasn't so I removed the fuel bowl cover and cleaned the needle and seat along with the rest of the fuel bowl. They were full of crud and gunck, I hate what old gas does!!

So now the fuel flooding problem is fixed, But I think i have another problem to worry about. There seems to be no fuel return, I have taken the line off of the carb and with the pump running constantly, Shouldn't fuel return after the bowl has filled up?

Yes, we have a recirculating system. The return line has an aluminmun connector between the carb and firewall hardline, in the middle of the rubber fuel hose. This is the fuel pressure regulator and it is also a one way valve. Make sure it orients to allow flow away from the carb. Take it out and blow through it, you can blow oneway only.

I didn't think that I would have had to check that because I removed the return line off of the carb and nothing came out of the steel line. Is there some way that fuel is getting blocked inside of the fuel line connecter to the carb?
