Gas mileage

Wowzers
I got my new to me 1984 GSL home yesterday, I filled it up again today and I'm only getting 15 mpg. It has a Webber 45 and RB exhaust from the stock head pipe back. Is this what I am to expect for milaege?????? I'm going to get into the carb and see what is in there for jet size and tube. Plus the electric fuel pump he put on is going to the bottom of the ocean. This thing screams loader than a $2 whore trying to get a tip. I haven't check it out yet to see what it is, I'll dig in tomorrow. I took it for a good cruise today on my favorite twisties to the ocean. Paul |

you should be getting 18+ even if you are pushing it.
|
Put a header on and keep your foot out of it, that should help.

Gas
While getting to know it today I checked the jets, if my old eyes aren't deceiving me the mains are 180 and the others are 60F8. don't know if these are to big so I'll pick up some different ones and play around.

I used to get about 14 mpg out of my street port 12a with dual webbers. That was when I stayed off the gas. When I got on it I would see as low as 10 mpg. 15 sounds pretty good to me.

hahaha what fuel pump is it ???? I'm guessing you have the carter

with dcoe 45 webers on my 12a (stockport), i'm getting about 16-18 MPG. and while driving, being what i would consider as "moderately conservative" as far as the "foot-in-it-factor" goes. so maybe you could expect a slight increase and maybe not....

If that mileage is in town only, that's not bad. Do a highway only test and post results. If you want the best tuning and mileage, tune with wideband. Without headers, the carb upgrade yields at most 1/2 of it's upgraded potential. Even with a 1/2 sp-1/2 bp, I can get 22+ on the highway. In town, when I had the Mikuni, cold weather, long warm ups and foot in it, it dropped to just under 8 mpg once. Now, with the dual DCDs, I'd guess I'm getting around 15.
Conserve your foot and see what you can get for mpg. I'm tickled that gas is now $1.49 here. Since you just purchased the car, I'd do the full 30/60k service as listed in both the FSM and Owner's Manual. |
I had a s/4 13b with sidedraft mukinis and a RB header that got 18-19 unless I was driving it real hard. Its been awhile but I think the jets were 190's... I could be wrong. Oh I also had direct fire ignition.
^^Maybe weak ignition? |

Not sure about the 45 (thats a down draft right, IDF or something) but I have a weber side draft knockoff (Dellorto 48 DHLA similiar to a weber 48 DCOE) and I get 17 city 25 highway with the highway being at 75-80 mph. If I syick my foot in it all day long I end up at about 17 still. A set of headers would definitely help it breathe better.
