Gas guage and dash lights
 

they dont work, anyone know what could be the prob? I checked all the bulbs and they work. but when i turn on the lights they dont come on. but the Hi beam, and all the warning lights come on, like the overheating light n shuch.


for the gagues same thing all the other ones work but the gas guage, there is an after market fule pump on the car, was on when i got it. could the other owner cut the wire/forgot to hook it back up some where?

Have you checked the room fuse? The fuel gauge senders often fail. The aftermarket pump should not affect the sender. Check the wires coming from the tank, they are often corroded due to sitting behind the driver's rear wheel.

If the wires are good, then the sender or gauge has failed.

ok does the gas gauge wire sit behind the driver seat under the bin? red with yellow stirpe? if so it was cut. but the wire does into the body and its too small/to far into the body to fix. where does the wire come out of the body and goto the guage? i wanna pull that wire out and run my own.

The one under the bin is the fuel pump I believe...Someone with their Haynes handy should be able to confirm this...

The gas gauge wire enters the car much further back, closer to the gas filler door area. Often the terminals on the sender unit corrode, you can access the sender without dropping the tank to clean it up, see this page for details: http://www.frosted7.com/katrina5.html

As for the gauge lights, first thing would be to check the fuse as mentioned above, but I am suspecting that its the dimmer gauge on the left side of your steering wheel. Remove it, and cross the two wires in the back, if your gauges light up, then perfect, if not, you may have connected two wires under the shift boot that you shouldnt have.

Forgot about the dimmer switch. If the wheel on the dimmer rotates more than 180*, it's broke. I have had them fail in the full off and full on illumination position. Usually they are full off.

this must be my sender is there a way of testing with out removing it the plugs are clean as days no corrosion

I don't think you can test the actual sender without removing it from the car. How about the wiring in the actual plastic connector from the wiring harness? Mine was pretty corroded there too and I had to sand it down a bit to get it working.
