FWD Sway bar removal for drag racing.
 

What all can be removed from the front suspension? I'm not use to working on this sweet 1979 suspension setups.

Can both of these bars be removed? Or just the sway bar? It the lower bar structural? Trying to get a large 4 core radiator between the frame rails and I'm having some space issues with all the turbo additions. 5" exhaust is a bear...

The lower bar is the "strut bar" and no, it cannot be removed. It is what locates the lower contol arm and determines castor angle.

If you really, really, really want to get rid of it and cost is no factor you could instal a Re-speed rack and pinion conversion and the strut rod goes away. Cost about a grand.

You can ditch the sway bar, no problem

yep, if the strut rod is gone, there is nothing left to stabalize the LCA's. They will flop around like a fish out of water. The only reasonable way to eliminate them is, as said in above post, to buy the REspeed subframe/steering rack conversion where the utilize the steering box and idle arm mount spots to attach a pair of proprietary rear arms, in effect making the LCA's an A-arm setup

Thanks all... I believe mustangs use a similar setup. This product looks like it may work if someone was so inclined.Could move them inline with the frame. Looks like alot of work though. I'll go back to the drawing board once I have the sway bar removed...

may work, but by the looks of it, point "A" and point "B" will still remain the same by design, so if the bushing mount is whats interfering with mounting and routing of turbo bits, it will still be in the way.

this is the Respeed subframe/steering rack conversion, notice how the strut rods are eliminated, but replaced with a rearward arm
