Fuel Tank Sending Unit Compatibility Question

I'm going to install an SE tank into my fuel injected 82. Does anyone know if the fuel level sending units are compatible or do I need to put the one from my 82 into the SE tank when I do the swap? Gotta have the gauge reading right!

theres only one sender for the 84-85 cars so i'm gonna say it will work.

The only real difference is that the '84-'85 cars had a three prong sender while your '82 has a two prong sender. The extra prong is for the low fuel level warning light. So you can either swap senders or adapt the '82 wiring to work with the SE sender.

Cool, thanks. The 82 tank doesn't have a drain plug does it?

You might want to compare the 2 tanks, side by side. I'm not sure if they are interchangeable, something about the spare tire well, but don't hold me to it. I recall reading it somewhere on the forums, and that question arose.

I do know they are interchangeable on the S3's, I'm doing that on my current project.

I know the SA tanks were different, they had a full-sized spare, but I was under the impression that the 81-83 and 84-85 tanks were the same. Anyone know for sure?

I believe the fit should be fine. The SAs were different due to having a full size spare (and a smaller tank because of it) as you mentioned. The 81-83 and the 84-85 tanks do have different part numbers, but that may be due to the difference in drain plugs (I don't believe the 82 has one, but I know the 84-85 does).

What's the fuel line size from the SE tank, and what's the size on the 12a tank?

'Lil help?

sgieldon 04-16-05 11:24 AM

16.4 Gallons
Fuel Line =5/16
If you are doing a Complete After Market Set-Up Go 3/8 From Fuel Tank to either FI or Carbed & of course a FPR to have a Accurate PSI.

Is the 5/16 the SE or the12a tank? What's the other?
