fuel system problem

ok, got the tank in and turn the key. pump makes pumping noises but no gas appeared in my glass fuel filter. so i turn it off, pull the line out of the pump and easily suck fuel into the filter. so fuel is right at the pump BUT IT STILL WON'T EVEN SPURT IT ONTO THE GROUND. i laid the out on the ground and it didn't even sputter anything out. what gives? i didn't actually try to turn over the engine since the pump wasn't even moving anything. argh, someone fix it.

drive it off a cliff.. that will fix all of its problems.. oh wait, you cannot drive it without fuel.. oops.. okay, i am out of ideas.. maybe someone can give you some real advice

coldy13 04-10-02 09:07 PM

give it to me :) then i can have 2 not running rx's. so, you said the pump was pumping, and no fuel was coming out of the line right after it? i dunno other than theres no gas in the tank

jeremy 04-10-02 09:36 PM

thats what i don't get. i know gas is right there. so what the hell is the pump doing if nothing is coming out? maybe i have to do something else to get it to move fuel.

Maybe you have the pump backwards or wires backwards? I've seen this before.

jeremy 04-10-02 10:26 PM

wiring maybe, pumps aimed right though. i checked that twice. the only way the wiring could be backwards is if the connector can be flipflopped which i doubt.

jeremy 04-11-02 08:20 AM

ok, the thing was wired correctly. i was wondering if it needed fuel in front of it too, or if it couldn't pressurize the tank, or if it needed the full system hooked up in order to use the return line to pressurize the tank, or if its crapped even though its making pumping noises? i'm going to tear it down to check it out. please someone that has a clue to how the fuel system works, tell me if it should pump fuel on to the ground if i KNOW there is gas on the in side and nothing comes out of the out side.

Son, you're answering your own question....
If you have the correct line from the tank to the pump you should be getting fuel from the "line out." If not, the pump is shot.

Further test: remove the pump. Get two containers. Hook the pump up to a battery with aligator clips. Dip one hose line into a small container with fuel in it, touch the wire to a battery terminal.....Fuel? No? Need new pump...

Denny,
From the 'ol corncrib....:D

its making pumping sounds though, as if its moving but nothing is getting to the moving part. i'm thinking the corrosion that attacked the rest attacked it and it might be blocked. i'm going to tear it down when i get home and see if i can't fix it. i have no $$$ and damnit i want to drive this thing.
