fuel screen.

Ok, I just disconnected both hoses from the fuel pump and did not see a little fuel screen/filter that the guys were talking about on a pervious thread. Any ideas?

the screen is on the fuel pickup line inside of the tank. it sits in a small baffled chamber.

maybe someone took it out already

My inquiry is in light of a thread started by Drifting_Fool titled "Losing Acceleration" (4/2/09). This was one of the responses to this thread by slow5oh: "On my car the screen just slid into the fitting on the inlet side of the fuel pump, a small flat-blade screwdriver was enough to pop it loose."

I really wish someone can verify this, cuz I never knew of such a screen/filter in-line of the fuel pump return line.

there isnt one that i know of.

thats a post that I made in reference to what i had foudn on my car when troubleshooting fuel issues. perhaps that screen was not factory, although my car still appeared to have the original pump. the screen was similar to this, but more conical shaped:

and slid into the inlet side of the fuel pump on the drivers side before installing the fuel line. its small so having alot of trash in the tank clogs it up quickly. I removed it and added a larger inline filter in the rubber part of the fuel line before the fuel filter. based on the ammount and size of the debris that is coming from the tank, i suspect that my car does not have any filtration inside the tank. Its possible that a previous owner installed the screen. nobody else on here seems to have any knowledge of that being a factory option.

as i stated in the pm I sent you, check your fuel pressure. that will quickly eliminate, or pin fault on, the fuel system.

Most of the fuel tanks I've removed, the pickup screen has failed, generally due to age. This puts more work on the inline filters, carb and fI systems. Since the new fI pumps don't seem to come with a new inline filter, they don't get replaced.

so from the factory, the gsl-se's DID in fact come with the inline filter in the inlet side of the fuel pump? im just trying to clarify whether my car had something that wasnt factory, or his car doesnt have something that is.

little conical filter on the inlet of the pump is factory. its not in the parts fische

there is also a filter on the pickup tube in the tank

When I replaced my fuel pump on my GSL-SE it had the little filter too

What Trochoid is talking about, I believe, is the fuel sock/screen on the bottom of the pick-up tube inside the fuel tank. People were having problems with it clogging. As far as an in-line fuel screen in the inlet hose of the pump is concerned, I'll check again to see if it's there. My fuel pump is factory, and I suspect that I will not have that screen that you are talking about.

By inlet you mean the the side of the pump that the feed line or bigger line goes to, right?

i dont know if its bigger or smaller hose, but its the feed line yes, on the drivers side.

Inlet side of the pump, coming from the fuel tank.
